Overview

This document is an owner's manual and safety instructions for the DAYTONA Heavy Duty Bottle Jack, available in two models: 58835 (20 Ton) and 58815 (12 Ton). The manual provides comprehensive information on the device's specifications, safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The DAYTONA Heavy Duty Bottle Jack is a hydraulic lifting device designed to raise heavy loads, such as vehicles, for maintenance or repair. It operates by pumping a handle to extend a ram, which lifts a saddle positioned under the load. The jack is intended for use on hard, level surfaces and requires additional support (jack stands) once the load is lifted to ensure safety. It is not suitable for aircraft purposes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model 58835 (20 Ton):
    • Weight Capacity: 20 Tons (40,000 lb.)
    • Max. Height: 20"
    • Min. Height: 10-5/8"
    • Base Dimensions: 5-3/4" x 7-5/8"
  • Model 58815 (12 Ton):
    • Weight Capacity: 12 Tons (24,000 lb.)
    • Max. Height: 18-5/8"
    • Min. Height: 9-7/16"
    • Base Dimensions: 4-3/4" x 7-1/2"

Usage Features:

  • Lifting Mechanism: The jack uses a hydraulic system. Pumping the handle extends the ram, and turning the Release Valve counterclockwise lowers the load.
  • Adjustable Saddle Height: The Elevating Screw on the saddle can be turned clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the initial height of the saddle, allowing for precise positioning under the lifting point.
  • Bleeding Procedure: Before initial use or if the jack is not working properly, a bleeding procedure is outlined to remove excess air from the hydraulic system. This involves opening the Release Valve, pushing down the Oil Fill Plug, pumping the handle, and then closing the Release Valve.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always use on a hard, level surface.
    • Never exceed the rated capacity.
    • Always support the lifted load with appropriate jack stands immediately after lifting.
    • Do not work under a vehicle without proper support from jack stands.
    • Lift only on vehicle manufacturer-specified lifting points.
    • Ensure the parking brake is applied and tires are chocked before lifting a vehicle.
    • Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away from the work area.
    • Do not allow anyone in the vehicle while using the jack.
    • Lower loads slowly.
    • Do not adjust the safety valve.
    • Wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and heavy-duty work gloves.
    • Avoid using the jack while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
  • Lowering Procedure: To lower the load, the handle is placed over the Release Valve and slowly turned counterclockwise. Before fully lowering, any jack stands must be removed after slightly raising the vehicle with the jack.

Maintenance Features:

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, the jack should be inspected for broken, cracked, bent, loose, or missing parts. Damaged equipment should not be used.
  • Hydraulic Oil Level Check: Before each use, the hydraulic oil level must be checked. The jack should be fully lowered, the Release Valve opened, and the Oil Fill Plug removed. The oil level should be even with the bottom of the Oil Fill hole. Only clean hydraulic jack oil should be used for topping off, and overfilling should be avoided.
  • Hydraulic Oil Change: The hydraulic oil should be changed at least once every three years. This involves removing the Oil Fill Plug, tipping the jack to drain old oil, and then refilling with high-quality hydraulic oil until it begins to run out of the Oil Fill hole. Proper disposal of old oil is required.
  • Cleaning: The jack should be cleaned with a clean cloth and a detergent or mild solvent.
  • Storage: After use, the jack should be lowered completely and stored in a safe, dry location, out of reach of children and unauthorized persons.
  • Professional Service: Any procedures not specifically explained in the manual, or if the jack malfunctions after troubleshooting, must be performed by a qualified technician. No alterations should be made to the product. Only manufacturer-supplied attachments/adapters should be used.

The manual also includes a parts list and diagram for both models (58835 and 58815), noting that some parts are for illustration only and may not be individually available as replacement parts. A 90-day limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, but excludes damage from misuse, abuse, negligence, accidents, unauthorized repairs, improper installation, normal wear and tear, or lack of maintenance.
