Overview

This document describes the Proflame 584 GTM Replacement Kit, designed as a direct replacement for the original remote system included with Comfort Glow Model LMFP Fireplace Systems or LDL 24" and 30" Log Sets.

Kit Contents:

The kit includes:

  • 1 Proflame GTM Receiver
  • 1 Proflame GTM Transmitter (Remote Control)
  • 1 Proflame Wire Harness
  • 1 Receiver Cover with 2 screws
  • 1 Mounting Bracket (for LDL log sets only) with 2 screws to mount the receiver to the bracket.

Function Description:

The Proflame 584 GTM Replacement Kit provides a new remote control system for existing Comfort Glow fireplaces and log sets. It allows users to control their fireplace or log set remotely, replacing older, potentially malfunctioning units. The system consists of a receiver, which connects to the fireplace's control valve and stepper motor, and a hand-held transmitter for user input.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source (Transmitter): Requires 3 AAA batteries. Users should ensure correct positive and negative orientation during installation.
  • Power Source (Receiver): Requires 4 AA batteries. Users should ensure correct positive and negative orientation during installation.
  • Connections: The receiver features connections for a stepper motor cable (labeled "motor"), and terminals for red and black wires from the control valve (TH and TPTH). A white connector on the wire harness plugs into the rear of the receiver.
  • Wiring: The wire harness includes green and white wires labeled TPTH and TH for connection to the corresponding screw terminals on the control valve.

Usage Features:

Disconnecting Existing Proflame Components:

  1. Safety First: Turn the unit off and allow it to cool before beginning any work.
  2. Accessing the Receiver:
    • For LDL Log Sets: Remove the left front crossover log and the left front log to access the receiver.
    • For LMFP Fireplaces: The receiver is located in a compartment behind the bottom louver.
  3. Battery Removal: Remove batteries from both the old receiver and hand transmitter. These batteries can be reused in the new system if their life is sufficient; otherwise, new batteries are recommended.
  4. Stepper Motor Disconnection: Disconnect the stepper motor cable from the "motor" connection on the old receiver.
  5. Control Valve Wiring Disconnection: Disconnect the red and black wires from the TH and TPTH connections at the control valve. The red and white wire from the thermopile should remain connected.

Preparing New Proflame Components:

  1. Unpack: Remove the replacement receiver and hand transmitter from the kit.
  2. Transmitter Battery Installation: Install 3 AAA batteries into the hand transmitter, ensuring correct positive and negative orientation as shown in Figure 3.
  3. Receiver Battery Installation: Install 4 AA batteries into the receiver, ensuring correct positive and negative orientation as shown in Figure 3.

Installing New Proflame Components:

For LDL Log Sets:

  1. Remove Old Bracket: Remove the old bracket from the LDL chassis. Keep the screws for later use.
  2. Mount Receiver to New Bracket: Insert the new receiver through the opening in the bracket provided with the kit. Use the two screws from the kit to secure the receiver to the bracket.
  3. Attach Receiver Cover: Secure the receiver cover to the receiver using the two screws provided with the cover.
  4. Mount Assembly to Chassis: Secure the entire receiver assembly to the LDL chassis using the existing screws removed in step 1.

For LMFP Fireplaces:

  • The receiver does not require a bracket in LMFP fireplaces. It can be placed loosely in the control valve area, positioned at the front of the fireplace, facing forward.

Connecting Proflame Components:

  1. Wire Harness Connection (Receiver): Remove the wire harness from the kit. Plug the white connector into the connection on the rear of the receiver as shown in the diagram.
  2. Stepper Motor Connection: Connect the black connector from the harness to the black connector from the stepper motor.
  3. Control Valve Wiring Connection: The green and white wires of the harness are labeled TPTH and TH. Connect the white wire labeled TPTH to the TPTH screw terminal and the green wire labeled TH to the TH screw terminal.

Completing Installation:

For LMFP Fireplace Owners:

  • The remote kit installation is complete. Follow the instructions provided with the remote control for programming and proper remote operation.

For LDL Log Set Owners:

  • The remote kit installation is complete. It is crucial to place the logs as specified in the log set installation instructions. Consult your owner's manual for proper log positioning. Failure to properly position logs can lead to sooting or property damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: Periodically replace batteries in both the transmitter and receiver to ensure proper operation. If unsure of battery life, it's recommended to use new batteries during installation.
  • Owner's Manuals: Owner's manuals for gas logs are available online at www.desatech.com. Users can select their gas log model number from a pull-down list to access relevant documentation, which includes programming and operational instructions for the remote.

This kit aims to provide a straightforward replacement process, ensuring continued remote control functionality for compatible Comfort Glow fireplace systems and log sets.
