CAUSE & ANALYSIS
REMEDY
Customer reports tool is
"tripping" during use
1
The tool has numerous protection features
that could cause a "trip", refer to the full list in
the user manual or this guide.
Refer to tool feature & LED
guide in manual and determine
what "trip" is happening.
Explain the feature and advise
possible corrective action if
appropriate. Diagnose tool as
necessary.
Customer reports that
tool is tripping breakers
during use
2
Excessively long or undersized extension
cords can result in higher current draw at the
circuit breaker causing nuisance trips.
Refer to user manual for
extension cord requirements.
Recommend using largest
gauge size and shortest length
extension cord as possible.
3
Using an undersized circuit breaker or too
many tools on the same breaker can cause
the breaker to trip.
Use a 20A circuit breaker and
appropriate extension cords.
Reduce number of
tools/equipment in use on the
same circuit
Breaker (at power
source) trips immediately
when tool plugged in
4
Cordset or cordset connection short: Unplug
tool, remove handle cover and inspect for a
short or excessive contamination at the
cordset connection posts that resulted in the
short. Refer to
Figure 1
for top cover
removal.
Remove contamination, replace
cordset and liberally apply white
glue to completely seal the
connection posts from
contamination prior to final
reassembly.
5
Module internal short: If cordset and
connection posts are ok, and no visible shorts
are present then the module has an internal
short.
With tool unplugged inspect
Stator and Rotor for damage,
refer to
ITEM 12
.
Replace module and reseal all
connections with white glue
prior to final assembly.
Customer reports that tool is
frequently tripping GFCIs
6
GFCI aged: GFCIs have a usable service life
particularly when exposed to harsh
environments. It’s recommended that they be
replaced periodically to ensure proper
function and reduce nuisance trips.
Replace GFCI with new part.
Hubble GFCI models that are
manufactured in China are
more likely to cause nuisance
trips with this power tool.
CAUTION: Repairs that require
work with mains power should
only be undertaken by licensed
electricians.
7
GFCI overly sensitive: Some GFCIs, even
when new, are sensitive to noise in the AC
line or external interference. Certain power
tools and equipment produce noise in the AC
line that may result in nuisance trips on these
sensitive GFCIs. If the GFCI is new and the
tool is confirmed to function properly on other
power sources this particular GFCI may not
be compatible with this tool.
