Questions and Answers

Overview

The DK2POWER OPC505AE is a 5-inch autofeed wood chipper designed for chipping wood and branches. This manual provides essential safety and operation instructions, as well as maintenance guidelines, to ensure optimal performance and user safety.

Function Description:

The OPC505AE is a high-powered machine specifically designed to chip wood. It features an autofeed system that controls the rotation speed of the feed roller, allowing for efficient processing of various wood sizes. The feed roller speed can be adjusted to match the cutter wheel capacity, with slower speeds recommended for larger trees and faster speeds for smaller trees. The machine is equipped with a feed function handle that allows the operator to control the feed roller's direction: UP for reverse, CENTER for neutral, and DOWN for forward feed. The chipper is designed to handle wood and branches with a maximum diameter of 5 inches.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine: 14HP KOHLER CH440, Electric Start
  • Power Source: Gasoline MID GRADE
  • Chipper Capacity: 3 cu ft/min (flow rate)
  • Wood Diameter (Max): 5 inches
  • Permitted Wood Width: 7.75 inches (1 inch thick)
  • Hydraulic Pump: 10ml/r, 20mpa
  • Hydraulic Motor: 0-600rpm, MAX 240N*M
  • Oil Tank Capacity: 1.05 GALS AW32 HYDRAULIC
  • Tire Size: 16*6.5-8
  • Overall Height: 62 inches
  • Overall Length: 85 inches
  • Width: 33 inches
  • Weight: 650 LBS
  • Cutter Max RPM: 2250

Usage Features:

The OPC505AE emphasizes safe and efficient operation. Users are instructed to read the safety and operating manual thoroughly before use to become familiar with the machine.

  • Starting Procedure:
    1. Position the chipper on flat, dry ground and ensure it cannot move.
    2. Set the fuel shut-off valve to "ON."
    3. Move the choke control lever to "CHOKE" (for cold engines).
    4. Move the throttle control lever to "FAST."
    5. For electric start, turn and hold the key in the start position until the engine starts, then release to the run position.
    6. Slowly move the choke control lever back to "RUN" once the engine is running well.
    7. Warm up the engine at half throttle for 3-4 minutes, then advance to maximum speed.
    8. Adjust the feeding function handle to "Forward."
    9. Adjust the feed roller to the proper speed (slow for large trees, fast for small trees).
  • Stopping Procedure:
    1. Adjust the feed speed bar to "0."
    2. Adjust the feed function handle to "STOP" or neutral.
    3. Move the throttle lever to IDLE.
    4. For recoil start, turn the ignition switch to "OFF."
    5. For electric start, turn the key to "OFF."
  • Operator Zone: Operators must always stand in the designated safe operating area when feeding trees into the machine and never place any part of their body into an unsafe position.
  • Handling Blockages: If the feed roller stops due to jammed wood, the engine should be stopped, the wood removed, and then the engine restarted to continue chipping.
  • Engine Bogs Down: If the cutting wheel and engine bog down, adjust the RPM to HIGH and the feed roller RPM to slow. Use the feed control lever (UP = REVERSE, MIDDLE = NEUTRAL, DOWN = FEED) to manage the feed.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of the OPC505AE.

  • Pre-Use Checks: Before each use, operators should check the engine oil level, general equipment condition, tightness of bolts, sharpness of the wedge, belts, and tire pressure.
  • Scheduled Maintenance:
    • Every 3 Hours: Check tire pressure, clean engine exterior and cooling fins.
    • Every 25 Hours: Change engine oil (first time after 5 hours).
    • Every 100 Hours: Replace air filter, replace spark plug.
  • Blade Condition: Blades should be in good condition, secure, sharpened, or replaced in sets. The blade-fan should not be blocked.
  • Hydraulic Oil: The hydraulic oil tank should be about 2/3 full.
  • Lubrication: All bearings are sealed units and are designed to have sufficient lubricant for the machine's normal lifespan.
  • Safety Devices: Never tamper with safety devices, and check their proper operation regularly.
  • Unusual Noise/Vibration: If the machine makes unusual noise or vibrates, shut down the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire, wait 5 minutes for the engine to cool, and inspect for damage.
  • Engine Service: Refer to the engine manufacturer's user manual for specific engine maintenance procedures.

Safety Precautions:

The manual highlights several warnings and cautions:

  • General Safety: Read all instructions, safety precautions, and warnings before operation. Wear protective goggles/safety glasses, gloves, non-slip shoes, and long pants. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Keep bystanders at least 50 feet away.
  • Gasoline Safety: Gasoline is highly flammable. Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Store fuel in approved containers away from heat/flame. Fill the tank outdoors with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or be near ignition sources when handling gasoline. Clean up spills immediately.
  • Machine Integrity: Never remove, bend, cut, fit, weld, or alter standard parts, shields, or guards. Such modifications can cause injury, property damage, and void the warranty.
  • Overloading: Never overload or attempt to chip woods beyond the manufacturer's recommendation, as this can cause personal injury or machine damage.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets at least 50 feet from the working area and never allow children to operate the chipper.
  • Substance Use: Do not operate the machine under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
  • Environment: Use the machine only in daylight. Do not operate inside a building or confined space. Do not climb on the in-feed chute.

For parts and service, customers are directed to call 702-331-5353. The warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year, with specific engine warranties provided by Kohler. The warranty does not cover misuse, improper installation, normal wear and tear, consequential damages, labor, or expendable parts like nuts, bolts, pins, springs, wiring, switches, hydraulic hoses, fittings, cutting parts (chains, grinding teeth, discs, chipper blades), belts, clutches, and tires.
