Overview

The Dometic FanTastic Vent is a roof light with an integrated fan designed for installation in motor homes and caravans, providing ventilation and light. It is available in several models, including the 7350, 7300, 3300, 3350, and 2250, each offering slightly different features and control methods.

Function Description:

The primary function of the FanTastic Vent is to provide air exchange within the vehicle, helping to regulate temperature and remove stale air. It operates as a roof light, allowing natural light into the vehicle when the cover hood is open. The integrated fan can be set to draw air in (inlet) or push air out (outlet), depending on the model and user preference. Some models feature a thermostat, allowing the fan to automatically switch on or off based on the interior temperature and a set threshold. A rain sensor is also available on certain models, which automatically closes the cover hood and switches off the fan if moisture is detected, protecting the interior from rain.

Important Technical Specifications:

The FanTastic Vent models share common dimensions and weight, but differ in power consumption and control features.

  • Dimensions (W x D x H): 471 x 471 x 190 mm for all listed models.
  • Weight: 5 kg for all listed models.
  • Voltage: 12 V= for all listed models.
  • Noise Level: < 40 dB(A) for all listed models, indicating quiet operation.
  • Max. Power Consumption:
    • FanTastic Vent 7350: 30 W
    • FanTastic Vent 2250-7300: 36 W (This specification likely covers both 2250 and 7300 models, implying similar power draw).
  • Maximum Travel Speed (with closed cover hood): 150 km/h. Exceeding this speed may lead to noise or damage depending on vehicle design or installation.
  • Roof Thickness: The device can be installed in roofs of varying thickness, with a spacer available for roofs thinner than 25 mm.
  • Installation Angle: The roof light should only be fitted on flat and parallel interior and exterior roof areas with a maximum inclination of 15° to the horizontal.

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • Cover Hood Operation: The cover hood must be closed before the vehicle is in motion. It should not be opened in strong wind or rain. For optimal air exchange, it is recommended to open one window furthest from the device and close all other roof openings.
  • Safety: The fan will only start when the cover hood is partially open (at least 5 cm or 2 inches for some models).
  • Rain Sensor: Available on some models (e.g., 7350, 7300, 3350). When activated, it automatically closes the cover hood and switches off the fan upon detecting moisture. The sensor reactivates once it has dried.

Model-Specific Controls:

  • Models 7350, 7300 (Remote Control Operated):

    • On/Off: Controlled via a dedicated button on the remote. The fan can only be switched on if the cover hood is open.
    • Temperature Setting (Thermostat): Adjustable at 13 levels (60 – 90 °F / 15 – 33 °C). The fan operates automatically based on the set temperature. Two LEDs lighting up indicate a temperature setting in the middle of the illuminated values.
    • Fan Speed: Adjustable at 13 speeds, from 10% (low) to 100% (high). Similar to temperature, two LEDs indicate a speed setting between illuminated values.
    • Outlet/Inlet Air: Switchable between drawing air in and pushing air out (for 7350 and 6350 only).
    • Remote Control: Goes into standby after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery. Pressing any button reactivates it, displaying the last settings. Manual switch-off resets all settings. The remote confirms commands with a single beep; a double beep indicates a prohibited command.
    • Battery Replacement: Uses two AA batteries.
  • Models 3300, 3350 (Manual Controls):

    • Fan Speeds: Four speeds (0: off, 1: low, 2: medium, 3: high) controlled by a switch.
    • Cover Hood Operation: Rocker switch for opening (UP) and closing (DOWN) the cover hood.
    • On/Off Switch: Available on model 3300.
    • Reversing Switch (Outlet/Inlet): Available on model 3350, allowing selection of air direction. Requires the fan blades to come to a complete standstill before changing direction.
    • Thermostat Switch: Adjustable between blue and red (-5.5 °C to 50.5 °C / 22 °F to 123 °F). The fan motor switches on/off based on interior temperature and thermostat setting, provided the cover hood is open by at least 5 cm, and the reversing switch (3350) or on/off switch (3300) is set appropriately.
  • Model 2250 (Rotary Control Switch):

    • Cover Hood Operation: Opens approx. 10 cm or more.
    • Power Levels: Adjustable with a rotary control switch (0: Off, 1: Lowest, 2: Middle, 3: Highest).
    • Safety Switch: The fan starts only when the cover hood is partially open.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Device:

    • Fan Blades and Grille Ring: Can be cleaned with window cleaner, non-abrasive detergent and warm water, or in a dishwasher. To remove, open the cover hood completely, remove the safety catch, pull down the grille ring (supporting the assembly), unscrew the fan blade screw, and pull down the fan blades. Reassemble in reverse order.
    • Protective Agent: After cleaning, a water-based protective agent can be applied to the grille ring and fan blades to reduce dust and dirt deposits.
    • Safety Precaution: Only use the fan when the grille ring is fitted.
  • Replacing the Fuse:

    • Turn the black cap anti-clockwise by one-quarter turn.
    • Pull the cap down gently to access the fuse on the back.
    • Check the wire for defects.
    • Replace with a new 4 A fuse of the same type.
    • Screw the cap back on tightly.
  • Loosening a Stuck Cover Hood:

    • In warm weather, the seal can dry and cause the cover hood to stick.
    • Open the cover hood completely.
    • If the seal is damaged, replace it.
    • Clean the underside of the cover hood and the seal with methylated spirits or solvent.
    • Apply a water-based protective agent (e.g., 303 Protectant), let it dry, polish with a soft cloth, and then apply an even layer of silicone on the seal.
  • Remote Control Care (for 7350, 7300):

    • Keep dry; wipe immediately if wet.
    • Store and use in environments with normal temperatures.
    • Keep clean; wipe with a damp cloth if necessary.
    • Handle carefully; do not drop.

The Dometic FanTastic Vent is designed for user-friendly operation and maintenance, ensuring a comfortable environment in recreational vehicles.
