Overview

This document is an operation manual for the Dometic 500 Plus Series and 706 Model VacuFlush® Toilets, specifically covering models 506+, 508+, 547+, 548+, and 706.

Function Description:

The Dometic VacuFlush toilet system is designed to vacuum waste from the toilet bowl and pump it to a holding tank or other effluent storage/disposal system. It operates via a foot pedal, allowing users to add water to the bowl (before using or flushing) by slightly raising the pedal, and to flush the toilet by pressing the pedal down. An optional status panel provides visual indicators for the toilet's operational status, including when it's activated, ready to flush, or not ready due to recharging vacuum. The system is designed for marine applications, offering home-like comfort and water conservation.

Usage Features:

  • Pedal-Operated Flush: Users can add water by slightly raising the foot pedal and flush by pressing it down. This provides hands-free operation.
  • Water Conservation: Water consumption per flush is controlled by how long the pedal is pushed. A typical flush (3 seconds) uses about 1 pint (0.5 l) of water.
  • Built-in Water Supply Vacuum Breaker: An in-line vacuum breaker prevents backflow into the water supply line in case of negative pressure, ensuring atmospheric protection.
  • Optional "OK to Flush" and "Do Not Flush" Indicator Lights: When equipped with a VacuFlush status panel (DVS01 or DVS02), a green light indicates sufficient vacuum for flushing, while a red light indicates low vacuum or a full holding tank.
  • Automatic "Full Tank" Shut-Down (Option): If connected to an optional holding tank level indication system, the vacuum generator will shut off power when the holding tank is full, preventing overfilling and potential damage.
  • Home-like Comfort: The 500 Plus series features a full-size wood seat with a large opening and deep bowl. The Model 706 has a marine-size toilet bowl.
  • System Start-up: Involves filling the freshwater tank, turning on electrical power and water supply, and flushing for about 15 seconds to clear the system.
  • Normal Operation: To add water, lift the flush pedal. To flush, press the pedal down for about 3 seconds. The vacuum pump recharges in about one minute after flushing.
  • Foreign Object Warning: Users are cautioned to flush only water, bodily wastes, and rapid-dissolving tissue paper. Flushing wet wipes, sanitary napkins, condoms, diapers, razor blades, paper cups, cotton swabs, food, hair, oils, or solvents can cause clogging or damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Use Dometic® Toilet Bowl Cleaner or other non-abrasive bathroom and toilet bowl cleaners. Avoid abrasive cleaners, caustic chemicals, lubricants, or cleaners containing alcohols or petroleum distillates to prevent damage to seals and valves.
  • Routine Maintenance (Monthly):
    • Check all clamped hose joints below the waterline for leaks.
  • Routine Maintenance (After first year, then as needed):
    • Check the filter screen in the water valve if water flow slows noticeably.
  • Routine Maintenance (Annually):
    • Replace the vent filter (if installed in the holding tank vent line).
  • Major System Maintenance (Every three years):
    • Replace duckbill valves in the vacuum generator or vacuum pump.
    • Replace the flush ball seal and flush ball (if required).
  • Extended Periods of Non-Use:
    • Clear sanitation hoses by flushing with water and 4 oz. (120 ml) of liquid biodegradable laundry detergent (no bleach), then flushing without water three times.
    • Turn off electrical power and water supply to the toilet system.
    • Completely pump out the holding tank.
  • Winterizing:
    • Pump out the holding tank.
    • Thoroughly flush the system with fresh water.
    • Drain the freshwater tank.
    • Add freshwater antifreeze (nontoxic, designated for potable water systems) to the freshwater tank.
    • Flush the antifreeze/water mixture through the toilet into the waste holding tank.
    • Empty the holding tank.
    • Caution: Never use automotive-type antifreeze in freshwater systems.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as water not staying in the bowl, incomplete flush ball closure, flush ball not opening, water not shutting off, water not entering the bowl properly, water leaks, vacuum pump running too often or not shutting off, and blockages.
  • Spare Parts: A list of recommended spare parts is provided, including flush ball seal, flush ball, water valve, vacuum switch kit, and duckbill valves, to ensure continuous operation, especially in remote areas.
