Observe the Instructions for Use
Any use of the sensing heads requires full understanding and
strict observation of this Installation Sheet and the Instructions
for Use “Sensing Heads Polytron SE Ex ... DD with Controller
Units Polytron and REGARD” (Order no. 90 23 657).
Installation of the sensing head
– The sensing head shall be mounted at a location with little
vibration and stable temperature in the vicinity of a poten-
tial gas leak.
– The sensing head shall be mounted in vertical orientation
so that the sensor’s gas inlet is pointing downwards.
– For maintenance purposes, allow at least 30 cm (12 “) of
space below the sensing head.
– For start-up, sensor current adjustment and calibration of
zero and sensitivity refer to the Instructions for Use (Order
no. 90 33 176).
Installing electrical connections
Connection with 3-core cable (braided screen, cover ≥ 80 %)
which is suitable for the intended ambient temperature, outer
diameter 12 mm max.
Sensing heads Polytron SE Ex PR M1/2 DD and
Polytron SE Ex LC M1/2 DD:
z By means of the connecting cone within the cable gland
the cable-screen has to be contacted to the internal con-
ductive surface of the enclosure.
z Tighten the cable gland.
z Connect shielding as short as possible to earth terminal of
rack system or panel on the controller site.
Sensing heads Polytron SE Ex PR M3 DD and
Polytron SE Ex LC M3 DD:
z Connect cable screen to the green/yellow terminal.
z Connect shielding as short as possible to earth terminal of
rack system or panel on the controller site.
CAUTION
Observe laws and regulations concerning equipment in
potentially explosive atmospheres as well as the approval
conditions.
