This document is an assembly guide for the "Charlie bed" ottoman bed frame from Dreams.

Function Description:

The Charlie bed is an ottoman-style bed frame designed to provide both a sleeping surface and integrated storage space. The ottoman mechanism allows the mattress and slat frame to be lifted, revealing a storage area beneath. This design is ideal for maximizing space in bedrooms.

Important Technical Specifications:

Assembly Time: Approximately 1 hour.
Assembly Requirement: Two-person assembly is recommended.
Bed Sizes and Weight Capacity (Ottoman Mechanism):
- Double: Minimum mattress weight 20 kg, Maximum mattress weight 45 kg.
- King: Minimum mattress weight 20 kg, Maximum mattress weight 45 kg.
- Superking: Minimum mattress weight 30 kg, Maximum mattress weight 55 kg.
Mechanism Type: Pressurised mechanism.
Tools Required: Tape measure, cross head screwdriver, Allen key (for M8 bolt), spanner (for M8 nut).

Usage Features:

Ottoman Storage: The bed features an ottoman lift mechanism that provides significant storage space beneath the mattress.
Mattress Requirement: It is crucial that the mattress is on the bed frame before operating the lift mechanism to prevent injury.
Lifting Handle: Always use the designated handle when lifting the ottoman.
Controlled Lifting: The rising speed of the ottoman will vary depending on the mattress weight; users should exercise caution until accustomed to the speed.
Initial Lubrication: After full assembly and with the mattress in position, the ottoman should be raised and lowered 4-5 times to ensure the gas pistons are fully lubricated.
Mattress Holders: Mattress holders (part 12) are installed on the slat frame to keep the mattress in place when the ottoman is lifted.

Assembly Process (Overview):

The assembly process is broken down into 15 steps:

Step 1: Attach two feet (7) to the bottom of the headboard (1) using screws (A).
Step 2: Attach two feet (7) to the bottom of the support wood (6) using screws (A).
Step 3: Attach the assembled feet (7) to the footboard (3) using bolts (F), washers (B), and spring washers (C), tightened with an Allen key (E).
Step 4: Install bolts (D) into the headboard (1) and footboard (3) by hand, leaving a 10mm gap as shown in the diagram. Do not fully tighten yet.
Step 5: Attach side rails (4 and 5) to the headboard (1) using an Allen key (E).
Step 6: Attach wings (2) to the headboard (1) using bolts (G), washers (B), and an Allen key (E).
Step 7: Attach side rails (4 and 5) to the footboard (3) using an Allen key (E).
Step 8: Attach brackets (I) to the headboard (1), side rails (4 and 5), and footboard (3) using bolts (H) and a Phillips head screwdriver. Stick felt pads (J) on top of each bracket (I).
Step 9: Place the baseboard (8) inside the bed frame and attach its velcro to the four edges of the frame.
Step 10: Ensure the two wings of the baseboard (8) are attached to the support wood (6) of the footboard.
Step 11: Tighten both slat frames (10 and 11) together using bolts (K), washers (B), and nuts (L), tightened with a spanner (M) and Allen key (E).
Step 12: Lift the assembled slat frames (10 and 11) onto the slat frame support bars, aligning the holes. Secure them using bolts (G), washers (B), and nuts (L), tightened with an Allen key (E) and spanner (M).
Step 13: Untie each mechanism, remove the transit protection block, tilt the arms upwards, and tighten all nuts and washers on the arms.
Step 14: Tighten the center supporter (9) to the side rails (4 and 5) using screws (N) and a Phillips head screwdriver. Stick felt pads (J) on top of the center supporter (9).
Step 15: Place mattress holders (12) on the slat frame. Fully tighten all bolts fixed in previous steps.

Safety and Care Features:

Children and Animals: Keep children and animals away from the assembly area due to small components and choking hazards. All plastic and wrapping materials should be kept away to prevent suffocation.
Mechanism Safety: Keep hands clear of the mechanism when opening or closing the ottoman. Never reach through the mechanism to access the storage area. Ensure the ottoman is FULLY opened before accessing storage.
Overload Prevention: Do not overload the internal storage base. Do not stand inside the internal storage area.
Mattress Removal: Before removing the mattress, secure the frame to prevent unexpected opening.
Lying on Mattress: Do not attempt to lie on the mattress when the ottoman is in the raised position.
Bedding: When lifting the ottoman, remove all bedding except the fitted sheet.
Cleaning: Clean the bed with a warm damp cloth. For fabric, use a low suction vacuum cleaner. Avoid abrasive chemicals or bleach.
Checking Fittings: Periodically check that screws or fixtures have not become loose.
Moving the Bed: Lift the bed when moving it to prevent damage to legs or flooring.
Wood Characteristics: Wood pieces are unique, with variations in markings and shade. Wood may lighten or fade over time due to light exposure.
Fabric Characteristics: Fabric shade may appear different depending on lighting and surroundings. Colour may lighten or fade over time due to light exposure.
Metal Maintenance: Gently dust metal furniture and keep it dry to maintain its look.
Recycling: Dispose of packaging safely and environmentally friendly, recycling where possible. Instructions are printed on recycled paper and should be kept for future reference.
