11. TROUBLESHOOTING
THE ENGINE DOES NOT
START
Possible causes
Repairs
1. Electric starter: check the
battery
Empty battery. Charge the battery.
2. Check the position of the
controls
Fuel shut-off valve is closed. Open the fuel shut-off valve.
The controls are not in the
correct position for starting the
engine.
Set the controls to the correct
position.
3. Check the fuel. Not enough fuel. Add fuel.
Incorrect fuel: The engine was
stored without treatment of the
fuel or without the fuel being
drained or incorrect fuel being
used.
Drain the fuel tank and carburettor.
Fill the tank with fresh fuel.
4. Disassemble and check
the spark plug.
Defective or fouled spark plug
with incorrect gap between the
electrodes.
Adjust the distance or replace the
spark plug.
The spark plug is wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Dry the spark plug and replace it.
Start the engine with the throttle in
the FAST position.
5. Take the engine to an
authorised servicing facility.
A clogged fuel system,
carburettor malfunction, ignition
malfunction, jammed valve, etc.
Replace or repair defective parts if
necessary.
REDUCED ENGINE
POWER

1. Check the air filter Clogged filter inserts. Clean or replace the filter inserts.
2. Check the fuel. Not enough fuel. Add fuel.
Incorrect fuel: The engine was

fuel or without the fuel being

ENGINE RUNNING

1. Check the spark plug Defective spark plug. Replace the spark plug
Incorrect gap between the
electrodes.
Adjust the distance between the
electrodes to 0.7 - 0.8 mm.
2. Check the air filter Clogged filter inserts. Clean or replace the filter inserts.
