PEDAL-ASSISTED
ELECTRIC BICYCLES
(EPAC)
EPAC is the acronym adopted by
European Regulation EN
15194:2009 and stems from the
initials of “Electrically Power
Assisted Cycle”, which has the
same characteristics illustrated for
the “pedal-assisted bicycles”
according to Art. 50.
The functional characteristics
required by the Italian and
European regulations when it
comes to Pedal-assisted Electric
bicycles (EPAC) are:
• the assistance of the electric
motor must be provided only
when the cyclist pedals
forward;
• the assistance stops once the
cyclist stops pedalling forward;
• Assistance gradually diminishes
and nally stops when the vehicle
reaches its top speed (25 km/h).
Pedal-assisted bicycles are
excluded from European Directive
2002/24/EC on type approval of
motor vehicles with two or three
wheels. Therefore, compliance
with and maintaining the material
requirements allow for the use of
your EPAC in accordance with the
regulations in force concerning
bicycles, so they can be used on
cycle lanes. Moreover, wearing a
helmet is not mandatory, nor is
having third party liability insurance
or a license plate.
Warning!
KP S.r.l. is not liable for any
damage caused by any alteration
and/or modication, by the

that are not original, standard
components, provided by the
FSA Group.
