pump

the

(the
pump
reservoir
to
be
elevated
above
all
components).
When
connecting
large
rams
and/or
long
hoses
the
reservoir
may
suffer
considerable
oil
depletion.
Therefore,
the
oil
level
in
the
pump
reservoir
should
be
rechecked.
Add
oil
if
necessary.
9
RAM
-PAC
unit
is
now
ready
for
operation.
10
Always
use
a
ram
whose
capacity
is
equal
to
or
greater
than
the
maximum
load
that
may
be
imposed
on
it.
If
there
is
any
doubt
as
to
the
magnitude
of
the
load,
it
is
suggested
that
a
Hydraulic
Gage
be
used
to
determine
its
actual
value.
11
Always
Wace
ram
on
a
firm,
solid
foundation
so
that
entire
area
of
its
base
is
supported.

MAINTENANCE HINTS
The
oil
level
in
the
pumps
should
be
checked
periodically.
The
RAM
-PAC
hand
pumps
are
shipped
with
their
full
oil
capacity.
However,
through
normal
operation,
there
is
a
certain
amount
of
oil
loss
which
should
be
replaced.
If
the
inspection
shows
that
the
oil
level
is
low,
it
should
be
replaced.
This
can
be
done
in
the
following
manner
for
the
HP
-150
Hydraulic
Pumps.

A.
B.
C.
Avoid
corner
and
off
-center
loading.
This
type
of
loading
imposes
eccentric
loads
on
the
ram
which
may
develop
heavy
side
loads
on
the
cylinder
walls
and
thus
cause
scoring
and
will
greatly
reduce
the
life
of
the
packing
and
the
cylinder.
Avoid
sharp
bends
in
the
hose
because
they
may
cause
premature
failure
of
the
hydraulic
hose.
For
persistant
leaks,
use
teflon
tape.
Be
careful
so
that
loose
tape
does
not
get
into
oil
passageway
because
it
may
prevent
ball
checks
from
properly
seating
and
sealing;
it
may
clog
filters
and
small
orifices.
The
reservoir
plug
is
located
at
the
rear
end
of
the
pump.
Turn
the
pump
so
that
the
reservoir
plug
is
up
and
remove
the
plug
from
the
end
cap.
Check
oil
level
with
the
dip
-stick
attached
to
the
end
of
the
reservoir
plug
as
you
would
in
your
automobile.
If
pump
is
not
fi
lled
to
capacity,
oil
will
not
show
on
the
dip
-stick.
Add
oil,
if
necessary,
until
it
shows
on
the
knurled
portion
of
the
dip
-stick
and
then
re-
place
the
plug.
Do
Not
allow
oil
level
to
go
above
knurl
on
the
dip
-stick.
If
the
reservoir
is
overfilled,
it
will
reduce
the
efficiency
of
the
pump.
D.
Use
only
DUFF
-
NORTON
HYDRAULIC
JACK
OIL
for
the
RAM
-PAC
units.
CAUTION:
Do
not
check
oil
level
or
add
oil
to
pump
while
the
ram
is
extended.
Always
see
that
the
ram
is
fully
re-
tracted
before
checking
the
oil
level.
Remember
that
cleanliness
of
the
oil,
and
of
the
interior
of
the
pump
and
the
ram,
is
the
key
to
trou,le-free
operation.
Do
not
permit
sludge,
dirt,
scale
or
other
contaminants
to
accumulate
in
the
reservoir.
