GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Keep the generator in a clean and dry environment where it
is not exposed to dust, dirt, moisture, or corrosive vapours.
Do not allow the cooling air slots in the generator to
become clogged with foreign material such as leaves,
snow, etc.
Do not use a garden hose to clean the generator. Water
entering the fuel system or other internal parts of the
unit can cause problems that will decrease the life of the
generator.
To clean the unit:
1. Use a soft bristle brush and/or vacuum cleaner to
loosen and remove dirt and debris.
2. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the generator with a damp
cloth.
SPARK PLUG MAINTENANCE
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be
properly gapped and free of deposits.
Loosen and remove the screw then lift the panel away, to
access the spark plug.
Pull the HT lead off the spark plug, Pic 18, and clean any
dirt from around the spark plug base. Using the spark plug
socket supplied remove the spark plug, Pic 19.
Inspect spark plug for damage, and clean with a wire
brush before reinstalling. If insulator is cracked or chipped,
spark plug should be replaced. Make sure electrode gap is
0.60mm-0.80mm.
NOTE: If replacing, use the following recommended spark
plug: A7RTC.
Screw spark plug back by hand, avoid damaging threads
of the cylinder.
Put the spark plug back in position and use the spark plug
wrench to tighten it. If spark plug is new, use 1/2 turn to
compress washer appropriate amount. If reusing old spark
plug, use 1/8 to 1/4 turn for proper washer compression.
Replace spark plug cap.
Slide the panel into place, and secure with the screw.
Warning! Spark plug must be assembled firmly, or it will
become hot and may damage generator.
A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine.
CLEANING SPARK ARRESTER
Depending on the type of fuel used, the type and amount
of oil used, your spark arrester on the outside end of the
muffler may become blocked with carbon deposits. If you
notice a power loss with your petrol-powered tool, you may
need to remove these deposits to restore performance.
1. Remove the spark arrester with tools.
2. Brush the excess carbon deposits from the inside of
the spark arrester
3. Refit the spark arrester
Never run your generator without the spark arrester as
sparks may exit the muffler and cause a grass fire.
