Overview

The DYMO LetraTag 100-H is a handheld labelmaker designed for creating a wide variety of high-quality, self-adhesive labels for personal and professional use. It supports various label sizes and styles, allowing users to customize their labels to suit different needs. The device utilizes DYMO LetraTag (LT) 12 mm label cassettes, which are available in multiple colors of plastic tape and white iron-on tape, offering flexibility in label material.

Function Description

The primary function of the LetraTag 100-H is to print custom labels. Users can input text, apply various formatting options, and then print and cut the labels. The labelmaker features an LCD display that shows a small portion of the entered characters, but with DYMO's graphical display, any applied formatting, such as italics or borders, is visible instantly. Feature indicators at the top of the display inform the user about selected settings like font size, number of lines, CAPS mode, and Num Lock.

Usage Features

  • Power Management: The labelmaker is powered by four high-capacity AA alkaline batteries. To conserve power, it automatically turns off after two minutes of inactivity. The last created label and previously selected style settings are remembered when the device is turned back on. The On/Off button also serves to cancel printing and return to edit mode.
  • Text Input and Editing: Users can enter up to 100 characters and spaces on a label. The device includes a QWERTY keyboard layout for easy text entry.
    • Backspace Key: Removes the character to the left of the cursor.
    • Clear Key: Clears all label text and formatting.
    • Navigation Keys: Allow users to review and edit labels using left and right arrow keys. Up and down arrow keys are used to navigate through menu selections, with the OK button confirming choices.
    • Cancel Key: Exits from a menu without making a selection or cancels an action.
  • Language Selection: Upon first power-on, users are prompted to select their desired language. The chosen language determines the available character set and date format.
  • Date and Time Setting: The device allows users to set the current date and time, which is crucial for automatically inserting correct dates on labels. The date and time format depend on the selected language (e.g., MMM DD, YY and 12-hour format for US English; DD MMM YY and 24-hour format for other languages).
  • CAPS Mode: The CAPS key toggles capitalization on or off. When CAPS mode is on, all entered letters are capitalized, and a CAPS mode indicator is shown on the display. By default, CAPS mode is on.
  • Num Lock: The 123 key provides access to numbers located on the A through J keys. When Num Lock is turned on, a Num Lock indicator appears, and pressing A through J will input numbers 1 through 0. Num Lock is off by default.
  • Formatting Options: The LetraTag 100-H offers various formatting options to enhance label appearance.
    • Font Size: Five font sizes are available: Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large. The selected size applies to all characters on a label.
    • Font Styles: Six different font styles can be applied: Normal, Bold, Italic, Outline, Shadow, and Vertical. These styles apply to all characters and can be used with alphanumeric characters and some symbols.
    • Box and Underline Styles: Users can highlight text by choosing from various box or underline styles, including Underline, Edged, Square, Train, Pointed, Sweet Hearts, Rounded, Flowers, and Crocodile. A label can be either underlined or enclosed in a box, but not both simultaneously. For two-line labels, both lines are underlined, or all lines are enclosed in one box style.
  • Two-Line Labels: The labelmaker supports printing a maximum of two lines on labels. A multi-line symbol is inserted at the end of the first line (but does not print) to indicate a second line.
  • Inserting the Date: The current date can be inserted onto a label, with the format depending on the labelmaker's version (US or European).
  • Symbols and Special Characters: The device supports an extended set of symbols and special characters, which can be inserted into labels. Users navigate through rows and columns of symbols on the display to select the desired one.
  • International Characters: The labelmaker supports an extended Latin character set using RACE technology. Similar to mobile phone keypads, holding down a letter key for more than one second scrolls through variations of that letter (e.g., a, à, â, æ). The available variations and their order depend on the selected language.
  • Printing Options:
    • Previewing Labels: Users can preview the text and format of their label before printing. Two-line labels are previewed as a single-line label with a line break character.
    • Adjusting Print Contrast: The print contrast can be adjusted to fine-tune the print quality.
  • Labelmaker Memory: The device has a powerful memory feature that allows storing up to nine frequently used labels.
    • Storing Label Text: The current label text can be saved into one of nine memory locations.
    • Recalling Stored Labels: Stored labels can be easily recalled for later use.
    • Clearing Memory Fields: A memory field can be cleared by recalling the label and then pressing the Clear button.

Maintenance Features

The DYMO LetraTag 100-H is designed for long-term, trouble-free service with minimal maintenance. Regular cleaning helps ensure proper functioning.

  • Inserting Label Cassettes: The labelmaker comes with one label cassette. To insert it, the label cassette cover is pressed and released to open the compartment. The cassette is then inserted with the label positioned between the print head and pinch roller, pressed firmly until it clicks into place, and the cover is closed.
  • Cleaning the Cutter Blade: It is recommended to clean the cutter blade each time the label cassette is replaced. This involves removing the label cassette, pressing down on a black post with a ball-point pen or pencil, and while holding it down, pressing and holding the cutter lever to expose the blade. Both sides of the blade can then be cleaned with a cotton ball and alcohol. This procedure can also be used if the cutter blade becomes lodged.
  • Cleaning the Print Head: The print head should be cleaned using a cleaning tool located inside the label compartment lid. If a cleaning tool is not available, users can contact DYMO Customer Care for assistance.
  • Battery Management: Batteries should be removed if the labelmaker will not be used for an extended period. If the display shows "Battery low," the batteries need to be replaced. If there is "No display," users should ensure the labelmaker is turned on and replace discharged batteries.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common problems such as "No display," "Poor Print Quality" (suggesting replacing batteries, ensuring cassette is installed, cleaning print head, or replacing cassette), "Poor Cutter Performance" (suggesting cleaning the cutter blade), "Printing" (indicating no action is required as the message disappears after printing), "Too many characters" (suggesting deleting some buffer text), and "Tape Jam" (suggesting removing jammed label, replacing cassette, and cleaning cutter blade). For further assistance, DYMO Customer Support can be contacted.
