Overview

This document describes the Dyna-Glo 4-Burner Natural Gas Grill with Griddle, model #DGX440SGN/DGX440SGN-D, an outdoor cooking appliance designed for natural gas use only. The grill features a combination of grilling surfaces and a griddle, offering versatile cooking options.

Function Description:

The Dyna-Glo 4-Burner Natural Gas Grill with Griddle is an outdoor cooking appliance that operates on natural gas. It is equipped with four main burners and a dedicated griddle burner, allowing for simultaneous grilling and griddle cooking. The grill is designed for outdoor use only and should not be used in enclosed areas such as buildings, garages, or under overhangs. It features a quick-disconnect coupling for connecting to a natural gas supply line. The appliance includes a main grill lid and a separate griddle lid, both with handles. It also incorporates a warming rack, cast iron grates for grilling, and a griddle cooking surface. Grease management is handled by a large grease pan and separate grease cups for both the gas grill and griddle sides. The grill is mounted on a cart with swivel casters (both locking and non-locking) for mobility, and it includes side shelves for convenience.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Fuel Type: Natural Gas only.
  • Main Burner Total Rated BTU: 48,000 BTU/Hr.
  • Griddle Burner Total Rated BTU: 18,000 BTU/Hr.
  • Minimum Clearance to Combustible Construction: 36 inches (91.44 cm) from sides and back.
  • Gas Supply Connection: Quick Disconnect Coupling (1/2 inch).
  • Installation Standards: Must conform with local codes or, in their absence, with the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, CSA B149.1, or Propane Storage and Handling Code, B149.2.
  • Pressure Testing: The grill and its individual shut-off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during pressure testing exceeding 0.5 PSI (3.5 kPa). It must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve during pressure testing at pressures equal to or less than 0.5 PSI (3.5 kPa).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Estimated assembly time is 50 minutes with two people. The unit is heavy and requires two people for safe assembly. Protective gloves are recommended due to potentially sharp edges.
  • Ignition: The grill features control knobs for each burner. To light, depress and turn the control knob counterclockwise from the "OFF" position, past the "IGNITE" position, to the "HIGH" position. If ignition does not occur within 5 seconds, turn the control knobs to "OFF," wait 5 minutes, and repeat the procedure. Match lighting instructions are provided as an alternative.
  • Griddle Seasoning: Before first use and regularly thereafter, the griddle surface must be seasoned to prevent food from sticking and to protect against rust. The seasoning process involves cleaning the griddle, heating it to high, applying cooking oil (flax seed oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, or sesame oil recommended), spreading it with paper towels held by tongs, and allowing the oil to burn off for 15 minutes or until no smoke is visible. This process should be repeated two or three times.
  • Cooking: After lighting, burners and griddle can be adjusted from high to low for desired cooking temperatures.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable liquids or vapors near the appliance.
    • Do not store an LP cylinder not connected for use near the appliance.
    • For outdoor use only; do not use in buildings, garages, or enclosed areas.
    • Do not leave a lit grill unattended. Keep children and pets away.
    • Do not move the grill while it is lit or hot; casters should be locked when stationary.
    • Always open grill and griddle lids slowly and carefully to avoid burns from trapped heat and steam.
    • Ensure all combustible items are at least 36 inches (91.44 cm) away from the grill.
    • Do not touch metal parts until completely cooled (approx. 45 minutes) without protective gear.
    • Do not alter the grill.
    • Do not use charcoal or lighter fluid.
    • Do not use gasoline, kerosene, or alcohol for lighting.
    • Not intended for use on recreational vehicles or boats.
    • Never attempt to operate with propane.
    • Always employ a qualified service agency for natural gas supply plumbing, manual shutoff valve, and quick-connect fittings installation.
    • The use of alcohol, prescription, or non-prescription drugs may impair the operator's ability to assemble or safely operate the grill.
    • Do not place on any tabletop surface; use a flat and level surface.
    • Do not use in high winds.
  • Shutdown: Turn all control knobs to the "OFF" position, close the natural gas shut-off valve, and close the lids.

Maintenance Features:

  • Leak Testing: Before each use and after any gas connection, perform a leak test using a 50/50 mixture of liquid dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Apply the solution to all gas-carrying connections and fittings. The presence of bubbles indicates a gas leak. Do not use the grill until all leaks are corrected.
  • Cleaning Cooking Grates: "Burn-off" the grates after each use (approx. 15 minutes with lid closed and burners on high), then clean with a wire brush.
  • Cleaning Outside Surfaces: Use mild dish soap and warm water. Rinse with warm water.
  • Cleaning Griddle Surface: After each use, scrape with a spatula and wipe with a paper towel. Table salt can be used for stubborn residue. Avoid dish soap as it reverses seasoning benefits.
  • Cleaning Inside Bottom Pan of Grill Body: Regularly clean to prevent flare-ups. Remove residue with a brush, scraper, or cleaning pad. Wash with mild dish soap and warm water. Avoid splashing water into burner venturi tubes.
  • Cleaning Heat Tents: Clean residue with a wire brush and wash with mild dish soap and warm water. Rinse with warm water.
  • Cleaning Grease Cups: Empty and clean regularly with mild dish soap and warm water.
  • Checking Flame: For optimal efficiency, the flame should be blue-yellow and 1-2 inches high. View through holes on both sides of the firebox.
  • Removing and Reinstalling Burner Assembly (Grill and Griddle):
    • Ensure all control knobs are "OFF," gas supply is closed, and gas hose is disconnected.
    • Remove warming rack, cooking grates, and heat tents (for grill) or griddle surface (for griddle).
    • Remove hinge pins and slide burners out of the firebox.
    • Detach ignition wire from the electrode.
    • Cleaning Burners: Ensure all burner ports are clear of clogs (use a pin or paper clip). Check for damage and replace if necessary. Ensure burner ends and primary air screens are free from insect nests, dirt, or debris.
    • Reinstallation: Ensure gas valve orifices are correctly positioned inside the burner inlet (venturi). A flashlight may be needed to verify correct positioning through firebox vent holes. Reattach burners with hinge pins and ignition wires to electrodes.
  • General Maintenance:
    • Annual inspection and service by a qualified service person is recommended.
    • Regularly check that the outdoor cooking appliance area is clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and flammable vapors/liquids.
    • Regularly check that the flow of combustion and ventilation air is not obstructed.
    • Regularly check that ventilation openings of the grill cabinet are free from debris.
    • Regularly check and clean burner/venturi tubes for insects and nests, as a clogged tube can lead to fire beneath the grill.

Limited Warranty:

  • 1-Year Limited Warranty: Covers broken or damaged parts at purchase and defects. Paint is warranted against defects, except for rust after repeated use.
  • 5-Year Warranty: Stainless Steel burners are warranted for 5 years.
  • Exclusions: Does not cover damage from neglect, abuse, modifications, or repair labor costs.
  • Replacement Parts: Parts meeting warranty requirements are shipped free via manufacturer's discretion (ground shipments, US Mail, or Parcel Post ONLY). Special handling charges are consumer's responsibility.
  • Claims: Apply only to the original purchaser and require proof of purchase. Do not return parts without a return authorization number. Customer service is available at 1-877-447-4768, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. CST, Monday - Friday, or via email at CustomerService@ghpgroupinc.com.
  • State-Specific Rights: Some states do not allow exclusion/limitation of incidental or consequential damages or limitations on implied warranty duration, so these may not apply to all consumers. Consumers may have additional legal rights that vary by state.
