Unusual noises and smells
Carry out the relevant checks if the customer reports any unusual machine noises or smells.
• If the noise is a loud, grinding sound, (possibly with strong odour), this may indicate a problem with the motor. A repair should
be booked. Advise the customer not to use the machine until after a repair has been carried out. Also check the cleaner head
for obstructions or damage.
• If the noise is a high pitched or whistling sound, complete the suction/blockage checks (p.16-18) and the bin check below
before booking a repair.
• If the customer reports a rattling noise, check to make sure that there is nothing rattling around in the clear bin. If the noise
remains, carry out the blockage checks on pages (16-18), before booking a repair.
• If the customer reports a strong, electrical type burning smell, book a repair and advise the customer not to use the machine. If
the smell is related to something that may have been picked up, carry out the blockage checks on pages (16-18). Also, ask the
customer to wash the clear bin and pre-filter.
DC26 cable rewind has a brake system inside (fig.1). When you pull the cable out or rewind it, the brake system makes a “zzzzzzzz”
noise.
If a customer complains about this noise, please explain that it is normal.
Cable makes a funny noise when you pull it out

If a customer complains of a whistling noise from the machine, please check where it is coming from: If the noise comes
from the exhaust it is the motor (fig.1). This is normal. Please do not send a new cyclone or bin assembly.
If the customer thinks the noise is coming from the bin, try squeezing the bin (fig.2). If the noise changes, it is probably the
bin seal. Send a new cyclone assembly.
