Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the EdgeStar Freestanding Kegerator, models BR2001BL and BR2001SS. It provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description:

The EdgeStar Freestanding Kegerator is designed for domestic indoor use to store and dispense draft beer from kegs. It functions as a refrigerated unit to keep beer at optimal serving temperatures. The unit is designed for freestanding installation, allowing flexibility in placement within a well-ventilated indoor area. It can accommodate various keg sizes, including one half barrel keg, one quarter barrel keg, one slim quarter keg, one to two sixth barrel kegs, or one to two Cornelius kegs. The kegerator includes a dispense tower, control panel, cold plate, keg plate, compressor step, and leveling feet (which can be replaced with casters for mobility). It also features an opening for an external CO2 line and pegs for a CO2 cylinder holder, offering options for internal or external CO2 tank installation.

  • Clearance Requirements: Minimum of 2” on the sides and 4” in the back.
  • Electrical Supply: Standard 115 V, 60Hz, properly grounded, 15 Amp fuse (or circuit breaker).

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: The kegerator features a control knob located inside the cabinet, allowing users to adjust the temperature. Settings range from 1 (warmest) to 6 (coldest). For keg storage, a setting between 4 and 5 is recommended to prevent freezing. Setting 6 is for short periods of dispensing.
  • Mobility (Optional): The unit comes with four casters that can be installed to replace the leveling feet, making the kegerator mobile.
  • Door Swing Reversibility: The door swing can be reversed to open from either the right or left side, providing flexibility for placement.
  • CO2 Tank Installation: The CO2 tank can be installed either internally or externally using the provided holder, with external installation offering more internal space for kegs.
  • Guardrail: A guardrail can be easily snapped into pilot holes on the top of the cabinet.
  • First-Time Operation: After unpacking, the unit should stand upright for at least 24 hours to allow cooling components to settle before being plugged in.
  • Energy Saving Guide: Recommendations include minimizing door openings, ensuring adequate ventilation, setting the thermostat to a middle setting under normal conditions, cooling items to room temperature before loading, and regular defrosting to prevent ice buildup.

Maintenance Features:

  • Defrosting: The unit may accumulate frost. To defrost, unplug the unit, open the door, remove contents, and use the included plastic scraper or allow frost to melt naturally. Wipe away remaining ice and water before plugging the unit back in.
  • Exterior Cleaning: The exterior can be cleaned with a mild detergent or hand soap mixed with warm water, using a soft sponge. For stainless steel doors, a cloth dampened with a mild detergent like lemon juice or vinegar and warm water solution is recommended. Abrasive or caustic cleaners should be avoided.
  • Interior Cleaning: The interior should be cleaned occasionally by disconnecting power, opening the door, allowing the unit to defrost, and wiping down with a clean cloth.
  • Dispense Kit Cleaning: Regular cleaning (every 2 weeks) of the faucet, beer hose, and keg coupler is crucial to prevent foaming, bacteria, yeast, mold, and beer stone buildup, which can degrade beer quality. Cleaning accessories are available at Kegerator.com.
  • Storage Preparation: For long-term storage or moving, the unit should be defrosted, cleaned, and dried, with the door left open for air circulation to prevent odors and mold.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section to help diagnose and resolve common issues such as frequent on/off cycling, failure to turn on, inability to reach desired temperature, strange noises, electrification of the body, frost formation, and improper door closure.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a One Year Parts & 90 Days Labor limited warranty, covering defects in workmanship under normal service conditions. Specific exclusions apply, such as labor charges for installation, shipping damage, cosmetic damage, normal wear and tear, misuse, unauthorized service, commercial use, and products with defaced serial numbers.
