Overview

This document outlines the features, usage, and maintenance of the EdgeStar Built-In Wine Refrigerator, model CWR532SZ. Designed for domestic indoor use, this appliance is optimized for storing wine and should not be used for industrial or commercial purposes. Proper installation and adherence to safety guidelines are crucial for its optimal performance and longevity.

Function Description

The EdgeStar CWR532SZ is a built-in wine refrigerator designed to store wine at optimal temperatures. It features a single cooling zone with a temperature range of 40°F to 65°F, allowing users to set the ideal environment for their wine collection. The unit is equipped with an air-cooled system and an internal fan that ensures consistent internal temperature distribution. A carbon filter is integrated to protect beverages from harmful odors, acting as a natural barrier. The refrigerator also includes a temperature memory function, which saves the previously set temperature in case of a power outage, restoring it once power is regained. For user convenience and safety, the unit incorporates a temperature alarm and a door ajar alarm. The temperature alarm will sound if the internal temperature goes above 73°F (23°C) or below 32°F (0°C) for more than an hour, indicating a potential issue. The door ajar alarm activates if the door remains open for more than five minutes, helping to prevent poor cooling performance and potential shortening of the refrigerator's lifespan. The unit is designed for both free-standing and built-in installations, offering flexibility in placement within a home environment.

Usage Features

Before initial use, it is essential to remove all packaging materials and allow the unit to stand upright for at least 24 hours to allow the compressor's oils to settle. The wine refrigerator should be installed in a well-ventilated area with ambient temperatures between 50°F and 95°F to ensure efficient operation. For built-in installations, specific clearance requirements must be followed: at least 1-2 inches at the back, 1/4 inch at the top, and 1/4 inch at the sides. If the door side is against a wall, a minimum of 2 3/8 inches of clearance is required. The unit must be connected to a properly grounded standard electrical supply (115 V, 60Hz) on its own dedicated circuit, with a fuse or circuit breaker size of 3 Amps. Extension cords or power strips should not be used.

Leveling the wine refrigerator is critical for proper operation. This can be achieved by rotating the plastic sheaths on the leveling feet at the bottom of the unit. A carpenter's level is recommended to ensure the unit is level from front to back and side to side. The door handle can be installed by first opening the door, pulling back the door gasket, removing pre-installed decorative plugs, inserting Phillips head screws through the gasket side, aligning the handle, and tightening the screws. Care should be taken not to over-tighten the screws to avoid damaging the handle or the stainless steel door.

The shelves are designed for easy installation and removal. To install, slide the shelf onto the track, push it back until it stops, then push down on the front of the shelf to lift the back over the plastic post, continuing until both notches pass through the posts. To remove, pull the shelf forward until the notch aligns with the plastic post, then lift the shelf until both notches pass through the posts, and continue pulling it out.

The door swing can be reversed from right to left. This process involves unplugging the refrigerator, removing screws from the lower hinge, carefully sliding the door off, removing screws from the upper right hinge, installing the upper left hinge, removing the lower hinge and bushing from the bottom right support bracket, and then installing the lower hinge and bushing on the bottom left support bracket. Finally, the door is reinserted into the upper right corner hinge and secured with the lower screws. Decorative plugs can also be removed and reinserted as part of this process using a flathead screwdriver.

The temperature control panel allows users to adjust the internal temperature using "Up" and "Down" buttons, which increase or decrease the temperature in 1-degree increments. A "RUN LIGHT" indicates when the unit is in cooling mode. A "Light Button" controls the inner light, and a "Power Button" turns the unit on and off by pressing and holding for approximately 3 seconds. Users can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit display by simultaneously pressing and holding both the "Up" and "Down" buttons for about 3 seconds. After powering the unit off, it is advised to wait at least 5 minutes before powering it back on.

Maintenance Features

Periodic cleaning and proper maintenance are essential for ensuring the efficiency, top performance, and long life of the wine refrigerator.

For exterior cleaning, the door and cabinet can be cleaned with a mild detergent and lukewarm water solution, such as two tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of water. Solvent-based or abrasive cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the surfaces. A soft sponge and clean water should be used for rinsing, followed by wiping with a soft, clean towel to prevent water spotting. If the door panel is stainless steel, it should be cleaned with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and warm water solution, as exposure to chlorine gas and moisture can cause discoloration. Abrasive or caustic cleaning agents should never be used on stainless steel.

Interior cleaning should be performed occasionally. This involves disconnecting power to the unit, opening the door, removing contents and shelves, and waiting for the unit to defrost. Once defrosted, the interior should be wiped down with a clean cloth. After cleaning, the shelves and wine can be reinserted, and power reconnected.

The carbon filter, which protects against harmful odors, should be replaced every 3 to 6 months. For units placed in a kitchen, a more frequent replacement every 3 months is recommended.

The unit automatically defrosts under most refrigerating settings. However, on colder settings or in humid ambient conditions, some frost may build up. To minimize frost, the door should be kept closed as much as possible, and unnecessary opening should be avoided. If frost prevents the door from closing properly, the unit may need to be powered off until the frost melts, and then dried with a soft absorbent towel. Sharp objects should never be used to remove frost.

If the wine refrigerator will not be used for a long time or needs to be moved, it should be defrosted and the interior dried. The unit should be disconnected from the power supply, and the door left open to allow for air circulation and to prevent mold, mildew, and unpleasant smells. When storing the unit, especially if children are present, precautions such as removing the door are advised to prevent a child from being trapped inside. It is also important not to touch the power plug with wet hands or unplug the unit by pulling on the cord.
