The Flights Link
Clicking on the Flights link takes you to a page that allows you to select a flight for flight
milestone display, and download a detailed .csv file that you can use with Excel or other data
analysis programs to extract graphs and do other fun things. We’ll go into that a bit later…
Flying with Your Quasar
The Quasar is very simple to operate. In general, a dual-deployment flight with the Quasar will look
something like this:
At your Work Table
• Charge or swap out your battery/batteries and use a DVM or battery checker to check the voltage
DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!
• Install the battery(s) with the power switch OFF (if used), then secure everything in the AV bay
• Check your deployment settngs to make sure they’re set the way you want them to be
• Close up the AV bay
• Install your igniters with the deployment power switch off (if used), with NO powder
• Connect to the Quasar and confirm that you have continuity. If you don’t, open up your AV bay
and figure out why.
∙ Turn off the deployment power switch (if used)
• Add powder to the charge wells, and finish prepping your rocket
At the RSO Table
• Get your rocket safety-checked, get your pad assignment, and swagger out to the pad. Note that
your Quasar will beep once every 60 seconds that it’s powered on, as the web page refreshes. You
may need to show your RSO the Status Page on your phone to show him that it’s disarmed if he’s
not familiar with the Quasar, since many Altimeters only beep when they’re armed.
At the Pad
Put the rocket up on the rail/rod, then go to the Quasar’s status page. If you’re using a power switch,
turn it on. Make sure that you have continuity on whatever channels you’re using… if you do not,
it’s going to be easy to tell because the status will be highlighted in RED. If it’s OK, it will be
either AQUA or GRAY. Make sure that you have a GPS fix too… if you do not, you’ll have to wait
to arm until you do. Assuming that everything is OK, enter the validation code into the box and
click on the SUBMIT box, after a second or two you should see the armed page. Once that happens,
CLOSE THE WEB PAGE. Closing the page prevents any data from interfering with the flight
sequence. Secondarily, we also recommend that you SHUT OFF YOUR WIFI on your handheld
device... that will prevent you from “pocket dialing” your Quasar if for some reason the browser
gets launched accidentally.
