Appendix D - Browser Notes
Here are some notes regarding browser compatibility. They may or may not apply to your
platform… there are a LOT of different hardware/software combinations, particularly with
Android. In general, the manufacturer’s browser is usually the best choice, except with Android
in which case we recommend Firefox.
Apple IOS
Newer versions of IOS (since 14.2) may generate a message “weak security” when you connect
to the SSID. This is because the WiFi connection uses TKIP encryption, an older version which
is highly compatible with just about everything. It won’t keep you from connecting, it’s just an
advisory message.
Also, newer versions of IOS assume that if you have a WiFi connection that it must be to get
onto the Internet. This is not true of the Quasar, of course. If you get a message that notifies
you that you do not have an Internet connection and asks if you want to connect to your cellular
data connection, you need to tell it to “Keep using WiFi”.
Android
Newer versions of Android may assume that if you have a WiFi connection that it must be to get
onto the Internet. This is not true of the Quasar, of course. If you get a message that notifies
you that you do not have an Internet connection and asks if you want to connect to your cellular
data connection, you need to tell it to “Keep using WiFi”.
We recommend using Firefox with Android instead of Chrome, it seems to be faster.
Windows
If you’re using Windows, we recommend that you use Internet Explorer if you can, or Edge.
You may also have to change some hardware settings on your WiFi device so that it works with
802.11g connections with TKIP encryption; some updates may change you drivers so that they
will only work with newer AES encryption.
General Tips
Once you’ve armed your QUASAR, CLOSE THE WEB PAGE.
Avoid using the BACK arrow… it may lead to inconsistent results.
If you have trouble maintaining a WiFi connection, TURN OFF cellular data on your phone.
Use the “private” or “incognito” setting on your browser, so it won’t remember your history.
Bookmark the “192.168.4.1” home page address, and use ONLY THAT to access your
QUASAR’s home page.
