What to do if my Ei Electronics Smoke Alarm doesn't sound when I press the test button?

If your Ei Electronics Smoke Alarm fails to sound when you press the Test button, consider the age of the unit by checking the replace-by label on the side. For 9V Replaceable Battery models, ensure the battery snaps are firmly connected. If you have a 10 Year Lithium Battery model, make sure the unit is twisted fully home on the mounting plate to connect the battery.

Why does my Ei Electronics Smoke Alarm keep going off for no reason?

      Brian BenitezOct 25, 2025
If your Ei Electronics Smoke Alarm sounds for no apparent reason, it could be due to several factors. First, neighboring units might be causing the alarm if your alarms are in the default factory settings; in this case, you should house code your alarms. Also, fumes or steam from the kitchen or bathroom, as well as paint fumes, can trigger nuisance alarms. Another potential cause is contamination like cobwebs or dust, so clean the alarm if necessary. Additionally, press the Test/Hush button on the Smoke Alarm causing the Alarm (identified by the rapidly flashing red light) to silence it for 10 minutes and silence other interconnected Alarms. Finally, Smoke & Heat Alarms with RadioLINK modules sound for 2 seconds every 4 hours when there is a depleted battery in the system; check all alarms...
