Overview

This document describes the Einhell TH-CD 12 Li Cordless Drill, an electric power tool designed for both tightening and undoing screws, as well as for drilling into wood, metal, and plastic materials. It is intended for private use and not for commercial, trade, or industrial applications.

Function Description

The cordless drill/screwdriver operates on a 12 V d.c. power supply, providing variable speed control up to 500 rpm. It features a mechanical torque selector with 11+1 settings, allowing users to adjust the torque for different screw sizes and material hardness. For drilling, the torque selector can be set to the "Drill" position, which deactivates the slip clutch and provides maximum torque.

Direction of rotation (forward/reverse) is controlled by a changeover switch located above the ON/OFF switch. This switch also serves as a safety mechanism, blocking the ON/OFF switch when in the center position to prevent accidental activation. The ON/OFF switch itself offers infinitely variable speed control; the further it is pressed, the higher the speed of the drill/screwdriver.

The device is equipped with a quick-change drill chuck that can accommodate drill bits or screwdriver bits up to 10 mm in clamping width. An integrated LED lamp illuminates the work area, activating automatically when the ON/OFF switch is pressed.

The cordless drill is powered by a Li-ion battery pack, which is protected from exhaustive discharge by an integrated protective circuit. This circuit automatically switches off the equipment when the battery is flat to prevent damage.

Usage Features

Before initial use, it is crucial to charge the battery pack using the supplied charger. To do this, the battery pack is removed from the handle by pressing the pushlock buttons on its sides. The charger's power plug is then inserted into a mains socket, and the battery pack is placed into the charger. The charger's LED indicator provides feedback on the charging status, including "Ready for use," "Charging," "Fully charged," "Adapted charging" (for batteries that haven't been used for a long time or are outside the ideal temperature range), "Fault" (for defective battery packs), and "Temperature fault" (if the battery pack is too hot or too cold).

When setting the torque, it is important that the tool is at a standstill to avoid damage. The correct torque depends on the material type and hardness, the type and length of screws used, and the requirements of the screwed joint. For screwdriving, self-centering screws (e.g., Torx screws, recessed head screws) are recommended, and the bit used should match the screw's shape and size.

Safety precautions are paramount during operation. Users should always wear ear-muffs to protect against noise-induced hearing damage, a breathing mask when working with materials that generate dust injurious to health (never with asbestos-containing materials), and safety goggles to protect against sparks, splinters, chips, and dust. It is also advised to check for concealed electric cables and gas/water pipes before drilling or screwing into walls.

To ensure long battery service life, the battery pack should be recharged promptly when the power of the cordless equipment drops, and it should never be fully discharged.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the device. Before any cleaning work, the mains power plug of the charger should always be pulled out. All safety devices, air vents, and the motor housing should be kept free of dirt and dust. The equipment should be wiped with a clean, moist cloth and some soft soap immediately after each use. Cleaning agents or solvents should not be used as they can damage the plastic parts. Care must be taken to prevent water from seeping into the device.

The equipment is designed not to have any parts inside that require additional maintenance by the user. In case of a defective battery pack, it should never be charged and should be removed from the charger. If the battery pack fails to charge despite proper connection, both the battery charger and the battery pack should be sent to the customer services department.

When ordering replacement parts, specific data such as the machine type, article number, identification number, and the required replacement part number should be quoted. The equipment and its accessories are made of various materials, and defective components must be disposed of as special waste, in consultation with a dealer or local council.

For storage, the equipment and accessories should be kept out of children's reach, in a dark and dry place, at a temperature between 5 and 30 °C, and preferably in its original packaging.
