The Electro-Voice S-60/S-60T is a two-way compact speaker system designed for sound reinforcement and monitoring applications. It features a constant-directivity design for uniform coverage, making it suitable for studios, clubs, bars, and theaters by minimizing "hot spots" and "dead zones." The system is available in paintable white or black finishes.
The S-60/S-60T is a two-way loudspeaker system comprising a 6.5-inch (16.5-cm) direct-radiating woofer for low frequencies and a 1-inch (2.5-cm) tweeter with a dispersion-controlling Direktor™ for high frequencies. The woofer is installed in an optimally vented enclosure, contributing to extended bass response and high efficiency within a small cabinet. The system's crossover frequency and component geometries are carefully selected to match the directional characteristics of the woofer and Direktor™ at the crossover point, creating a constant-directivity system with a 120° x 120° rated coverage angle. This design ensures uniform response within the coverage area, whether the system is used horizontally or vertically. The controlled directivity also helps eliminate response irregularities caused by diffraction off enclosure edges, resulting in a uniform total acoustic power output across the frequency range.
The S-60T model includes an optional 60-watt line transformer with selectable taps, allowing for use with 70-volt or 100-volt lines. The power level can be adjusted via a screwdriver-selectable switch on the rear panel. A tweeter-protection circuit is integrated into the crossover, featuring an automatically resetting device that allows short-term transients to pass while protecting the tweeter from long-term power extremes. Both drivers feature low-leakage magnet designs, and the woofer is screened for use near video monitors. For critical video monitoring, a minimum distance of approximately 10 cm (4 in.) is recommended between the loudspeaker edge and the CRT edge.
The S-60/S-60T is designed for versatility in installation. The enclosure is constructed from high-impact ABS plastic, specially treated to allow painting with commonly available finishes. The system is equipped with six M6 threaded inserts for mounting. It can be suspended using the EV S-60MB universal U-bracket, which allows for suspension at any angle and orientation from a wall or ceiling. Alternatively, the OmniMount® Series 75 support system can be used, utilizing four M6 threaded inserts located in the rear panel. When using the OmniMount system, M6 hardware is provided, and a safety chain should be used for secure operation.
For the S-60T model, the power selector switch for the transformer is located on the rear of the enclosure. The level can be adjusted using a screwdriver, with clockwise rotation increasing power. The same switch and transformer are used for both 100-volt and 70-volt lines, so the power setting depends on the amplifier output. A caution is provided against using the "DO NOT USE" setting when connected to a 100-volt line, as this may lead to excessive power driving or distortion.
The enclosure and baffle board are specially treated to enhance paint adhesion. Electro-Voice has tested the S-60 with several commercially available paints successfully. However, it is recommended to test a small area with the chosen paint to ensure no adverse effects and sufficient adhesion. Care should be taken to avoid getting paint onto the woofer cone or the tweeter screen.
Electro-Voice products are backed by a Uniform Limited Warranty, guaranteeing against malfunction due to defects in materials or workmanship for a specified period. For speakers and speaker systems, this period is five (5) years from the date of original purchase. The warranty does not cover burned voice coils or malfunctions resulting from improperly designed enclosures. For active electronics associated with speaker systems, the warranty period is three (3) years. To obtain warranty service, the product must be delivered prepaid to Electro-Voice or an authorized service representative, along with proof of purchase. Product repair or replacement is the sole remedy provided, and Electro-Voice is not liable for incidental or consequential damages.
