Overview

This document is a user manual for the Electrolux EDV5051 and EDV6051 Tumble Dryers, providing essential information on safety, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Electrolux EDV5051 and EDV6051 are household tumble dryers designed for drying clothes, towels, and linen. They offer various drying programs and temperature settings to accommodate different fabric types and desired dryness levels. The dryers feature both sensor-based programs, which automatically detect the dryness of the load, and timer-based programs for specific durations. A key design element is the reversible drum action, which rotates both clockwise and anti-clockwise to minimize tangling and ensure more even drying. The appliance is designed for domestic use and should not be used for any other purpose.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Models: EDV5051, EDV6051
  • Capacity: 5 kg for EDV5051, 6 kg for EDV6051 (dry load)
  • Power Supply: Requires direct connection to an AC power supply that is properly earthed and has the correct voltage. Voltage information is available on the serial number sticker.
  • Venting Options:
    • Front venting (standard)
    • Rear venting (optional, using a venting kit DVK005 for through-the-wall or DVK006 for universal flexible hose)
    • Exhaust duct length for venting kit: Must not exceed 2 meters at 100mm diameter.
  • Installation: Can be placed on the floor, on a workbench, mounted on a wall (upright or inverted with included kit), or stacked on a front-load washing machine with an optional stacking kit.
  • Safety Features:
    • Door safety switch button: Prevents operation if the door is not fully closed and the button pressed.
    • Lint filter: Essential for safe and efficient operation, must be cleaned after every load.
    • Overheating protection: Reduced by a clean lint filter and proper ventilation.
    • Cooling cycle: Automatically switches off the heater at the end of the drying cycle to remove stored heat and prevent creasing.
  • Control Panel: Features an On/Off button, Start/Pause button, Delay button, Option button (for Crease Free), Temperature button (Normal, Delicates, Airing), Program button (Sensor and Timer programs), Reminder Clean Filter LED, and Child Lock.

Usage Features

  • Loading: Load the dryer loosely, no more than two-thirds full. Overloading reduces efficiency, increases drying time, and can cause creasing. Do not load dripping wet items or items with sand/grit.
  • Program Selection:
    • Sensor Programs: Extra Dry, Normal Dry, Iron Dry. These programs automatically stop when the desired dryness level is reached. Not recommended for delicates like polyester on "Extra Dry" to prevent shrinking. For small loads, "Extra Dry" is recommended for best results.
    • Timer Programs: 90 Min, 60 Min, 30 Min. These programs run for a set duration.
  • Temperature Settings:
    • Normal: For most fabrics, uses higher heat.
    • Delicates: For delicates and synthetics, uses lower heat (heater cycles on for shorter periods) for maximum fabric care.
    • Airing: Circulates air without heat to shake out dust and refresh clothes. Cannot be selected with Sensor programs.
  • Option Features:
    • Crease Free: Keeps the drum rotating for about 5 seconds every minute for 3 hours after the drying cycle to prevent creases if the load cannot be unloaded immediately.
    • Delay Start: Allows delaying the start of the drying cycle by 3, 6, or 9 hours. The program must be set before activating the delay.
    • Child Lock: Locks the control panel settings once a program has started, preventing accidental changes. Does not affect the On/Off switch. Activated by pressing and holding Program and Temperature buttons simultaneously.
    • Buzzer: Sounds "beeps" at the end of the program. Can be activated/deactivated by pressing and holding Option and Delay buttons simultaneously.
  • Checking the Load: The door can be opened during a cycle to check dryness or add clothes. The dryer will beep, and the cycle can be resumed by closing the door, pressing the door safety switch, and then Start/Pause. For best performance, it is recommended to add or remove clothes only at the beginning of the cycle.
  • Last Memory Setting: The dryer remembers the last program, temperature, and option settings used, making it ready for the next use.
  • Drying Guide:
    • Always check care labels for drying symbols (May be tumble dried, Normal drying (high temperature), Do not tumble dry, Delicate drying (low temperature)).
    • Permanent press and synthetics should be removed immediately after drying to reduce wrinkles.
    • Woollen articles are not recommended for tumble drying; if dried, pull to original shape and dry flat.
    • Woven and loop knit materials may shrink; use "Delicates" setting and stretch immediately after drying.
    • Baby clothes and nightgowns (acrylic) should use the "Delicates" setting.
    • Do not dry items made from or containing rubber or plastics (e.g., aprons, bibs, waterproof napkins, foam rubber pads, galoshes).
    • Fibreglass is not recommended due to potential glass particles irritating skin.
    • Fabric softeners or similar products should only be used if specifically recommended by the manufacturer. Sheet-type fabric conditioners are strongly advised against as they can rapidly block the lint filter.
    • Sorting laundry by fabric type (e.g., heavy items like towels separately from quick-drying items like poly/cotton shirts) improves results.
    • Separate "lint givers" (towels, nappies, chenille) from "lint collectors" (corduroy, synthetics, permanent press) to minimize lint transfer.
    • For items still damp after drying (especially multi-layered items), set a 30-minute post-drying time.
    • Thoroughly spin laundry in the washing machine before tumble drying to save time and energy.
    • Briefly pre-spin easy-care items (approx. 30 seconds) to reduce creasing.
    • To avoid static charge, use fabric softener during washing or a fabric conditioner specifically for tumble dryers.
    • Remove laundry when drying is complete; do not over-dry to prevent creasing and save energy.
    • Wash clothes or towels containing sand or grit before drying.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning the Lint Filter: The lint filter, located at the bottom of the door opening, must be cleaned after every load. A clean filter reduces drying time, saves energy, and prevents overheating. To clean, open the door, press the two pads together to pull out the filter, then wipe or peel off the lint. Ensure it "clicks" when replacing. Never operate the dryer without the lint filter. A torn or damaged filter must be replaced immediately.
  • Professional Cleaning: To avoid potential fire hazards, it is recommended to have a qualified service technician periodically clean the dryer, especially when changing its mounting from upright to inverted or vice versa.
  • Ventilation: Ensure clear airflow at inlet and outlet points to prevent overheating. If a venting kit is used and exhaust is discharged out of the room, adequate ventilation is crucial to prevent backflow of gases from other fuel-burning appliances. Exhaust air must not be discharged into a flue used for other fumes.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the dryer not starting (check plug, fuse, door closure, door safety switch) or clothes remaining wet (check drying time, room temperature, blocked lint filter).
  • Accessories: Venting kits (DVK005, DVK006) and stacking kits are available from local appliance shops or Electrolux Home Products Pty. Ltd. Spare Parts Distributor.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a warranty against manufacturing defects for 24 months in Australia and New Zealand. Specific conditions apply, and proof of purchase is required for claims. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, improper installation, normal wear and tear, or servicing by unauthorized personnel.
