Overview

This document is a Use & Care Guide for an Over the Range Microwave Oven from Electrolux, providing comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and safety.

The microwave oven is designed for food preparation, heating, cooking, and drying, but not for industrial or laboratory use. It features a turntable system for even cooking, which rotates both clockwise and counterclockwise. The oven is rated at 1050 watts, and users are advised to check food a minute or two before the minimum cooking time and add time as needed. The exterior of the oven may become warm during cooking, especially at power levels below 100%, and condensation is a normal part of microwave cooking.

Function Description

The microwave oven offers various cooking functions, including:

  • Manual Cooking: Allows users to set specific cooking times and power levels. There are ten preset power levels, with lower levels recommended for foods requiring longer, slower cooking. Power levels can be changed during cooking. A "Quick Start" feature allows for rapid cooking from 1 to 6 minutes by pressing a single number key, or 30-second increments by repeatedly pressing the START/+30sec pad.
  • Convection Cooking: Offers ten temperature settings ranging from 100°F to 450°F. This function can be used with or without preheating. During convection cooking, the vent fan automatically turns on at a low speed to protect the oven, turning off approximately 60 seconds after cooking completion. For baking at temperatures above 300°F, the vent fan will automatically turn on at medium speed after a period of time.
  • Grille Cooking: Designed for roasting or broiling, allowing juices to drain away from food.
  • Defrost: A dedicated function for defrosting various food items by weight/portion, including casseroles, chicken pieces, ground beef, roasts, soups, and steaks/chops/fish.
  • Sensor Reheat: Automatically reheats food within a weight range of 8-16 oz.
  • Multiple Sequence Cooking: Allows programming up to two automatic cooking sequences, switching between different power levels. This is useful for recipes that require starting at one power level and then changing to another.
  • Auto Cook (Fast Recipe): Provides a selection of pre-programmed recipes for various food categories such as frozen meals, melt/soften, popcorn, veggies, meats, poultry, fish, desserts, snacks, breads/grains, and casseroles. Some auto menu items are sensor-based and cook automatically within a listed weight range.

Usage Features

The control panel includes a digital display for time and cooking information. Key pads include:

  • Set Clock: To set the current time of day.
  • Stop/Clear: To erase mistakes, temporarily stop cooking, return to the time display, cancel a program, or return to the waiting state after cooking.
  • Timer: A separate timer function for general timing needs, up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds. The hood fan and surface light can be activated while the timer is in use.
  • Vent Fan: Five speed settings (turbo, high, medium, low, off) to control the exhaust fan. The vent fan also turns on automatically when heat rises from range surface units or burners to protect the microwave from excessive heat.
  • Light: Three settings (high, low, off) for the oven light.
  • Enquire: During microwave cooking, this allows checking the power level and remaining cooking time. During cooking, pause, or timer state, it allows checking the clock.
  • User Pref: Provides access to five customizable features: Child Lock (on/off), Demo Mode (on/off), Sound (on/off), Scroll Speed (slow, normal, fast), and Website information.
  • Turntable On-Off: Allows toggling the turntable on or off. This function is only available for microwave cooking.

For safety, the oven door must be securely closed for operation. The microwave oven is equipped with safety door latches and a see-through window. It is important not to defeat or tamper with the safety interlocks.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and care are essential for optimal performance and longevity:

  • Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Door: Wipe the window with a soft cloth to remove spills. Metal parts should be wiped frequently. Avoid spray and harsh cleaners that may stain or dull the surface.
  • Easy Care™ Stainless Steel (some models): Clean with warm soapy water and a clean sponge or cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chlorides, chlorines, or ammonia. A 50/50 solution of water and vinegar is recommended.
  • Interior: Clean with a soft cloth and warm water. For heavier soil, use baking soda or mild soap. Rinse thoroughly. The rack can be cleaned with hot soapy water.
  • Waveguide Cover: Located on the ceiling, made of mica. Keep it clean by wiping food spatters with a damp cloth immediately after they occur to prevent overheating and potential fires. DO NOT REMOVE THE WAVEGUIDE COVER.
  • Odor Removal: To remove cooking odors, combine water, grated lemon peel and juice, and whole cloves in a glass measuring cup, boil for several minutes at 100% power, allow to cool, then wipe the interior.
  • Turntable and Turntable Support: Removable for easy cleaning. Wash in mild, sudsy water or use a mild cleanser for stubborn stains. They are dishwasher-safe (upper rack). Wipe up excess water or spills immediately as the motor shaft is not sealed.
  • Grease Filters: Clean at least once a month. Pull down on the tab to remove, soak in hot water and detergent, agitate with a brush, rinse, and shake dry. Do not use ammonia or other alkali.
  • Exhaust Ventilation Filters: Remove by pulling a lever, then pulling the filter downward. Clean often (at least monthly) and reinstall by infixing hooks into the base plate, then pulling the lever and locking.
  • Surface Light Replacement: Unplug the oven or turn off power at the circuit breaker. Remove the bulb cover mounting screws, replace the bulb with a 40-watt appliance bulb, and re-install the cover.
  • Charcoal Filter Replacement: For non-vented, recirculated installations, the charcoal filter should be changed every 6 to 12 months. Disconnect power, remove vent grill mounting screws, pull the grill away, push the charcoal filter inwards, turn, and pull it away. Replace with a new filter.
  • Oven Light Replacement: Remove the vent grill and charcoal filter (if used). Open the light cover by loosening the screw, replace the burnt-out bulb with a 40-watt bulb, and re-install the cover.

The manual emphasizes the importance of reading all instructions before use and saving the guide for future reference. It also includes a service call checklist to troubleshoot common issues before contacting customer support.
