Overview

This document is an operating manual for an Electrolux T5190 tumble dryer, Type N1190. It provides comprehensive instructions for safe operation, program selection, handling, and maintenance of the appliance.

The primary function of this device is to dry clothes and other textiles. It offers both automatic and time-based drying programs, catering to various fabric types and desired dryness levels. The machine is designed for efficiency and user convenience, with different control panel configurations to suit various models, including those with buttons and a control knob, or panels without buttons, as well as coin-operated versions.

Usage Features:

The tumble dryer features a user-friendly interface for selecting and starting drying programs. Users can choose between "Automatic programs" and "Time programs."

For Automatic programs, the machine utilizes moisture detection to stop when the selected dryness level is achieved. Examples of automatic programs include:

  • NORMAL: Suitable for cotton and terry fabrics, operating at normal/medium temperature. Users can select dryness options like "Extra dry," "Dry," or "Iron dry."
  • LOW: Designed for synthetic fabrics (e.g., polyester, polyamide, polyacrylic, elastane), viscose, polycotton, and delicate items, operating at a low temperature. Dryness options include "Extra dry," "Dry," or "Iron dry."

For Time programs, the machine operates for a preset or selected duration without moisture detection. Examples of time programs include:

  • NORMAL: For cotton and terry, allowing selection of different drying times.
  • LOW: For synthetic fabrics, viscose, polycotton, and delicate items, with various drying time options.
  • NO HEATING: For airing bedspreads, duvets, and bedclothes, also with selectable drying times.

Specialized automatic programs are also available for specific markets, such as hospitals or camping sites, including "NORMAL EXTRA DRY," "LOW EXTRA DRY," "NORMAL DRY," "LOW DRY," "NORMAL IRON DRY," and "LOW IRON DRY," each tailored for different fabric types and dryness requirements. Coin-operated machines typically offer time-based programs like "HIGH," "MEDIUM," "LOW," and "NO HEATING," where users insert coins to start and add time.

The machine incorporates several "Option buttons" to enhance drying cycles:

  • ECO PROGRAM: Dries using less energy.
  • CARE PROGRAM: For sensitive fabrics, suitable for small loads.
  • QUICK PROGRAM: Aims to complete the program as quickly as possible.
  • EXTRA DRY: For thorough drying of thick or multilayered fabrics.
  • DRY: For items ready to be put in a cupboard/closet, ensuring even dryness.
  • IRON DRY: Leaves items damp and ready for ironing, particularly for thin textiles.

Starting the machine involves loading goods, ensuring the filter is clean, closing the door, selecting the desired program by turning the control knob, and then pressing the control knob (or start button on some models) to begin. For time programs, users can adjust the drying time after starting the machine.

Additional functions are accessible via a menu after starting the program, by pressing the control knob or start button. These include:

  • Stop function: Allows stopping and resuming the program during operation.
  • Pause: Temporarily pauses an ongoing program.
  • Changing a program after start: Enables selecting a new program during an ongoing cycle.
  • End a program: Terminates the current program.
  • Status menu: Displays information such as inlet air temperature, outlet air temperature, Residual Moisture Control (RMC) status, and heat status.
  • Statistics menu: Shows total run hours and trip run hours.
  • Change drum speed: (Only on machines with MCU) Allows adjustment of drum speed.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the tumble dryer. The manual emphasizes that the owner or laundry manager is responsible for ensuring maintenance is performed. Lack of maintenance can lead to deteriorated performance and damage to components.

The machine may display a "TIME FOR MAINTENANCE" message, indicating that service is due. While the machine can still be used, this message will persist until maintenance is carried out.

Daily maintenance tasks include:

  • Checking that the machine does not operate with the door open; if it does, it must be taken out of service until repaired.
  • Cleaning the door, door gasket, and other external parts.
  • Checking and cleaning the lint filter after each drying cycle for best performance. The filter should be clean and unbroken.
  • Removing any lint and dust accumulated around the machine.

Regular maintenance for fresh air intake and fan motor:

  • Periodically checking that the fresh air intake on the front of the machine is not clogged by lint, dust, or other obstructions.
  • Disconnecting power to the machine, removing screws to the filter (A), and cleaning the fresh air inlet and fan motor with a vacuum cleaner, taking care not to damage parts.

Maintenance for machines with Residual Moisture Control (RMC):

  • Regularly wiping off and cleaning the drum and lifters with citric acid (Acidum citricum). If soap/softener residue remains, a coarse sponge is recommended. This is important because lack of cleaning can reduce the accuracy of the automatic residual moisture control, leading to clothes being moister than desired.

Maintenance to be carried out by qualified service personnel:

After 1600 hours of operation or once a year (whichever comes first), qualified service personnel should perform the following:

  • Clean the fan, the exhaust duct, and the fresh-air intake to the room.
  • For machines with RMC, clean the glide surface on the RMC graphite collector.
  • Clean the area around the drum.
  • Clean the motors.
  • Check the belt tension.

The manual stresses that servicing should only be carried out by authorized personnel using authorized spare parts, and power must be disconnected when performing service or replacing parts.
