Overview

The Elsema 240S1 and 240S2 are controller cards designed for 240VAC motors, suitable for a wide range of light commercial and industrial applications including roller shutters, sectional doors, garage doors, sliding doors, and swing gates. These cards are offered in two sizes, with the 240S2 model featuring an additional key switch input, allowing for flexible installation into existing cases as replacement or upgrade options. They are engineered to provide a comprehensive and user-friendly control solution, incorporating modern technology and customer feedback to ensure ease of use and setup.

A key feature of these controller cards is the adjustable auto-close function, which allows the gate or door to automatically close after a preset time, ranging from 3 to 60 seconds, adjustable via a trimpot. They also offer adjustable slow speed for both opening and closing cycles, which can be fine-tuned independently. Force adjustment is available for both open and close directions, ensuring safe and efficient operation. These adjustments should be performed before setting the travel time, as changes to force will necessitate a re-calibration of travel time.

The cards support various input types, including dead man controls for open and close, automatic ground and travel distance calibration, and inputs for photocells, pedestrian access, and wireless remote controls. An external key switch input is available on the 240S2 for enhanced security and safety. The system is versatile, supporting both Normally Closed (NC) and Normally Open (NO) limit switch inputs, or can be configured for travel timer setup.

An auxiliary relay output is provided to control courtesy lights or other accessories. This output can be configured as a courtesy light, which stays on for 60 seconds after power-up and after each run cycle, or as a lock output, activated for a set time during opening and closing cycles (default 2 seconds). The lock time is adjustable. Additionally, the auxiliary relay can be set as a strobe light output, activating only when the gate/door is in motion. A 24VDC output (150mA) is available to power external accessories such as loop detectors or swipe card readers.

The 240S1 and 240S2 utilize a toroidal transformer, which contributes to excellent efficiency and low leakage losses, thereby reducing electricity consumption. This design also provides high isolation, protecting the electronics from noisy power lines, and minimizes magnetic field radiation and acoustic noise, allowing the controller to pass stringent EMC and radiation tests.

For programming and setup, the cards feature a mode switch to toggle between RUN and PROGRAM modes. Dip switches are used to configure various features, such as auto-close, remote control functions (open only, close only), security close, photoelectric beam behavior (stop and open on close, stop on close, stop on open and close, stop and close on open), auxiliary relay function (courtesy light, lock, 2-channel courtesy light, strobe light), and input polarity for limit switches and photoelectric beams. Input status LEDs provide visual feedback on the status of connected inputs.

The travel timer setup is crucial for applications requiring slow speed, force adjustment, internal motor series limit switches, linear motors, mechanical clutches, or external limit switches with travel times exceeding 90 seconds. This setup involves a learning process where the system records the full open and close positions of the gate/door.

The controller cards also include a "Stop and Reverse" feature for push button and remote control on the close cycle, which can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, activating a push button during closing will stop the gate/door and automatically open it. A "Push Button Open Only" feature can be configured, making the push button input function identically to the dedicated open-only input, preventing it from closing the gate/door.

A "Brake" feature can be enabled, which applies a brake to the gate/door when it stops, particularly useful for installations on sloping planes. The factory default for this feature is "OFF". An "Overrun Time" can be added to the learnt travel time, compensating for factors like wind or mechanical loading, with a factory default of 10 seconds.

Maintenance features include a standard slow blow 5 Amp fuse (5x20mm), which can be replaced with a 10 Amp slow blow fuse for motors larger than 1.0kW (1.3HP). The controller card can be reset to factory default settings through a specific dip switch and mode switch sequence, confirmed by a buzzer beep. Each input has a built-in test button and a status LED for easy troubleshooting.

The 240S2EK model, with its key switch, offers three operational modes: AUTO, OFF, and MANUAL. In AUTO mode, the controller can be operated by wireless remote control, external push buttons (configured as open, stop, close, or open only), pedestrian access inputs, and a stop button on the front of the case. In this mode, the open and close buttons on the front of the case are disabled. In OFF mode, the controller and all associated inputs are disabled. In MANUAL mode, the controller operates only with the push buttons on the front panel, disabling wireless remote controls.

Elsema offers a range of accessories compatible with these controller cards, including PentaCODE® and PentaFOB® series key fob remotes with mini receivers for secure gate/door operation, and various photoelectric beams (through-beam and retro-reflective with IP-66 ratings) for safety. Vehicle loop detectors, including 1-channel (MD12-1), 2-channel (MD12-2), and multi-channel (MD2010, LD30-12) options, are also available for detecting metal objects.
