8.10 Digital Message Verification
The FAA does not require this check under FAR 91.207d but it is highly recommended that at the initial
installation all units are checked.
In Canada this test is mandatory.
During the INITIAL tests Emerging Lifesaving Technologies strongly recommends that a complete and
comprehensive test be done using a WST or equivalent. Tests should include but are not limited to:
• Power Output
• Frequency Stability
• GPS Information for Accuracy
• Hex Coding
• Country Coding

8.11 Documentation of Inspection
All maintenance performed on aircraft or their sub-systems must be documented in the
appropriate records. See the applicable CARs for the format and sign off of these records.

8.12 Special Shipping Instructions
If for any reason this unit must be shipped, it is important to prevent any inadvertent activation of
the unit. All 406 ELTs are shipped with a strapping plug that will make the unit dormant.
