Figure 1. 299H Series Pressure Reducing Regulator
Description
The 299H Series pressure reducing regulators provide
a broad capacity of controlled pressure ranges and
capacities in a wide variety of distribution, industrial
and commercial applications. A 299H Series regulator
has a pilot integrally mounted to the actuator casing.
The 299H Series regulators can handle inlet pressures
up to 175 psi / 12.1 bar depending on orifice size.
The integral token relief on the Types 299HR and
299HVR regulators is located in the pilot and opens to
relieve minor overpressure.

Overview

The 299H Series Pressure Reducing Regulators are designed to provide accurate and reliable control of downstream pressure in a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications. These regulators are particularly suited for use in natural gas distribution systems, where they can handle a broad capacity of controlled pressure ranges. The 299H Series is available in several configurations, including the 299H, 299HR, and 299HV.

Function Description

The 299H Series regulators are pilot-operated, meaning a small pilot regulator controls the main valve to maintain the desired outlet pressure. This design allows for precise control and high capacity. The regulator operates by sensing the downstream pressure and adjusting the main valve opening to maintain the setpoint.

  • Internal Registration: In this configuration, the regulator senses downstream pressure through an internal passage. This is suitable for applications where the sensing point is close to the regulator.
  • External Registration: For more accurate control, especially in applications with varying flow rates or where the sensing point is remote from the regulator, external registration is used. A separate control line connects the downstream pipe to the pilot, providing a more representative pressure signal.
  • Dual Registration: This option combines both internal and external registration, allowing for flexibility in sensing locations and improved control under specific conditions.
  • Token Relief: The 299HR model includes a token relief feature, which provides overpressure protection by allowing a small amount of gas to bleed off if the downstream pressure exceeds a set limit. This helps prevent nuisance shutdowns and provides an additional layer of safety.
  • Slam-Shut Device: The 299HV model incorporates a Type VSX8 slam-shut device, which provides overpressure and/or underpressure protection by completely shutting off the flow of gas to the downstream system if pressure deviates beyond preset limits. This is a critical safety feature for many applications.
