Overview

The Fisher Large ET/EWT and ED/EWD Valves, NPS 12 through 30, are control valves designed for throttling or on/off control of a wide variety of liquids and gases. These valves are available in CL150 through CL600 ratings.

Function Description:

The ET/EWT series valves utilize a hanging cage and a seat ring threaded into the cage. They feature two spring-loaded seal rings, one between the cage and plug, and another between the seat ring and valve body, providing up to a Class V standard shutoff. These are suitable for low to medium temperature applications. The ED/EWD series valves employ a hanging cage and a seat ring bolted into the body. They use two graphite piston rings between the cage and plug, offering up to a Class IV standard shutoff. These are designed for high-temperature applications, with shutoff improvable to Class V using a Bore seal. Specialized ET-C and EWT-C versions are available for cryogenic temperatures, featuring unique trim, seals, and a longer extension bonnet. A range of severe service trims are offered for noise abatement or cavitation control. Noise abatement trims, such as Whisper Trim III or WhisperFlo cages, are used in gas services. Cavitation control trims, like Cavitrol III cages (for services without entrained particulate) or Dirty Service Trim (DST) sets (for services with entrained particulate), help prevent the damaging effects of liquid cavitation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Valve Sizes:
    • ED, ET, and ET-C: NPS 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 30.
    • EWD, EWT, and EWT-C: NPS 16x12, 20x16, 24x16, and 24x20.
  • End Connection Styles:
    • Flanged: CL150, 300, and 600 raised-face or ring-type joint flanges per ASME B16.5. NPS 30 valves have series A or B flanges per ASME B16.47.
    • Buttwelding: All ASME B16.25 schedules through schedule 120 compatible with ASME B16.34 valve body rating.
  • Maximum Inlet Pressure: Consistent with CL150, 300, and 600 pressure-temperature ratings per ASME B16.34 for flanged, and CL600 for buttwelding.
  • Shutoff Classifications (per ANSI/FCI 70-2 and IEC 60534-4):
    • ET, ET-C, EWT, and EWT-C: Standard Class V; Optional Class IV (for all cages except Cavitrol III).
    • ED and EWD: Standard Class IV; Optional Class V.
  • Flow Characteristics:
    • Standard Cages: Linear or Equal percentage.
    • Whisper Trim III and WhisperFlo Cages: Linear.
    • Cavitrol III Cages: Linear.
  • Flow Direction:
    • Standard Cages: Down.
    • Whisper Trim III and WhisperFlo Cages: Up.
    • Cavitrol III Cages: Down.
  • Yoke Boss and Stem Diameters:
    • 127 mm (5H-inch) diameter yoke boss, with 31.8 mm (1.25 inch) diameter valve stem for all valves except NPS 30.
    • 179 mm (7-inch) diameter yoke boss, with 50.8 mm (2 inch) diameter valve stem for NPS 30 valve.
  • Bonnet Style:
    • ED, EWD, ET, and EWT: Style 1 extension.
    • ET-C and EWT-C: Style 3 extension.
  • Temperature Range (ET/EWT): -46°C (-50°F) to 232°C (450°F). Can be extended to 316°C (600°F) for non-oxidizing service and to 260°C (500°F) for oxidizing service with High Temperature (HTS1) seal. Cryogenic temperatures as low as -198°C (-325°F) with ET-C and EWT-C versions.
  • Temperature Range (ED/EWD): 316°C (600°F) to 593°C (1100°F).

Usage Features:

  • Installation Flexibility: The control valve assembly can be installed in any orientation unless limited by seismic criteria, though vertical actuator positioning is normal.
  • Process Compatibility: Valve configuration and construction materials are selected to meet specific pressure, temperature, pressure drop, and controlled fluid conditions. Users are advised to consult Emerson sales office or Local Business Partner for conditions outside specified limits.
  • Safety: Comprehensive warnings are provided regarding personal injury and property damage, emphasizing the importance of proper training, protective gear, isolation from pressure, and lockout procedures during installation and maintenance.
  • Packing Options: Valves can be equipped with ENVIRO-SEAL™ live-loaded packing or HIGH-SEAL ULF live-loaded packing, which do not require initial readjustment. Retrofit kits are available to convert existing packing arrangements to ENVIRO-SEAL.

Maintenance Features:

  • In-Line Maintenance: All maintenance operations, including packing lubrication, packing maintenance, and trim maintenance, can be performed with the valve in the line.
  • Gasket Replacement: New gaskets should be installed whenever a gasket seal is disturbed to ensure proper sealing.
  • Packing Lubrication: For PTFE/composition and other packings requiring lubrication, a lubricator or lubricator/isolating valve can be used. Oxygen service or processes over 260°C (500°F) should not have lubricated packing.
  • Packing Inspection: Regular inspection of valve stem threads, packing box surfaces, and packing for nicks, scratches, or wear is recommended to prevent leakage.
  • Bonnet Removal: Specific instructions are provided for safely loosening and removing the bonnet, including temporary installation of a locknut on the valve stem to prevent the valve plug and stem assembly from dropping.
  • Bolting Procedures: Detailed guidance on proper bolting procedures for body-to-bonnet joints, including crisscross tightening patterns and torque values, is provided to ensure a secure seal.
  • Trim Disassembly: Step-by-step instructions for disassembling the actuator, bonnet, plug, stem, and seat ring from the valve body are included. Special tools like eye bolts are used for lifting heavy components.
  • Valve Plug Maintenance: Procedures for replacing plug seal rings (for ET/EWT, ET/EWT with HTS1, and ET-C/EWT-C valves) and piston rings (for ED/EWD valves) are detailed, including lubrication and careful stretching to avoid damage.
  • Bore Seal Maintenance (ED/EWD): Specific steps for removing, inspecting, and installing bore seals, including drilling out staked threads and using an installation tool, are provided.
  • Seat Ring Maintenance: Instructions for removing and replacing seat ring seal rings, including tack welding for ET/EWT valves, are outlined.
  • Reassembly: Comprehensive steps for reassembling the valve after maintenance, including installing gaskets, securing the seat ring with cap screws (with specified torque increments), and lowering the cage, are provided.
  • Parts Ordering: Information on how to order replacement parts, including seal ring and piston ring kits, gasket kits, and standard packing kits, by referring to the valve's serial number. Emphasis is placed on using only genuine Fisher replacement parts to maintain warranty and performance.
