A common example of a digital signal you are likely
to be regularly exposed to would be DECT digital
cordless phones or WiFi in your home environment.
You can hear their ‘pulsing’ on the Acoustimeter.
4G is a “spikier signal than 3G, and 5G has more
sharp ‘pulses’ than both. This is thought to make it
more bioactive and it also brings the PFD level more
in line with the V/m on the LED displays.
A simple analogue signal
In contrast, an analogue (non-digital) signal, uses a
more continuous signal, and instead of turning “on
and off” to represent data, will vary the frequency
(FM) or strength (AM) at audio frequencies.
Nowadays there are relatively few analogue signals
that you are likely to encounter that will not be
drowned out by stronger local RF digital
communication signals.
