Overview

The Erickson Manufacturing Ltd. Aluminum Combination Loading Ramp, item no: 07488, is a versatile loading ramp designed for various equipment, including snowmobiles and ATVs. Its primary function is to facilitate the safe loading and unloading of equipment onto a vehicle, such as a truck. The ramp is constructed from aluminum, ensuring a balance of strength and portability.

Function Description:

The ramp serves as a bridge between the ground and a vehicle's loading surface, allowing users to move equipment up or down with reduced effort and increased safety. It is designed to be used as a loading ramp only and not for other purposes. The combination design suggests adaptability for different types of equipment, particularly those with tracks (like snowmobiles) or wheels (like ATVs), thanks to its polyethylene runners. These runners are removable, offering flexibility in how the ramp is used. The ramp is foldable, which enhances its portability and ease of storage when not in use.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated Capacity: 1500 lb. (evenly distributed load). This specification is crucial for safety, as overloading the ramp can lead to personal injury or property damage.
  • Ramp Dimensions (Open): 84" x 54". This indicates the usable length and width of the ramp when fully extended for loading.
  • Ramp Dimensions (Folded): 5.75" x 84" x 18.5". These dimensions highlight the compact nature of the ramp when folded, making it easier to transport and store.
  • Maximum Recommended Height: 30 inches. This refers to the maximum height of the vehicle's loading surface for safe operation of the ramp.
  • Material: Aluminum construction for the main ramp structure, with polyethylene runners for specific equipment types.

Usage Features:

The ramp is designed for ease of use with several key features and operational guidelines:

  • Polyethylene Runners: These runners are specifically designed for all-season use and are ideal for snowmobiles and ATVs. They are easily removable using a Phillips screwdriver, allowing the ramp to be adapted for different equipment types.
  • Safety Strap: A crucial safety feature, the ramp includes a safety strap to securely fasten it to the vehicle, preventing it from slipping off during loading or unloading.
  • Foldable Design: The ramp can be folded into a compact size, making it convenient for storage and transport. It locks into the folded position for secure handling.
  • Loading Procedure:
    1. Ensure the loading surface is hard, level, and stable. The vehicle should be in "Park" with the emergency/parking brake on and the engine off.
    2. Unfold the ramp and place its lip against the back of the vehicle.
    3. Secure the ramp to the vehicle using the safety strap, then test its stability by pulling backward.
    4. Position the equipment to be loaded between the ramps, centering the load.
    5. Carefully roll or winch the equipment up or down the ramp. Crucially, users are warned never to drive or ride equipment while loading or unloading.
    6. Continue until the vehicle is fully loaded, then secure the equipment with brakes and tie-downs as needed.
    7. After use, unhook the chain, fold the ramp, and lock it into the folded position for storage.
  • Tailgate Loading Precaution: Erickson Manufacturing does not recommend loading or unloading on a tailgate. If a tailgate must be used, it is strongly recommended to use an approved Tailgate Support for proper precautions.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance is emphasized to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the ramp:

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, users should inspect the ramp for any loose hardware, worn or damaged parts, or frayed/worn safety straps. Any damaged parts should be replaced.
  • Cleanliness: Ramp surfaces must be kept clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, or water to ensure proper traction and prevent accidents.
  • No Modifications: Users are explicitly warned against any unauthorized modification, alteration, or deviation to the ramp, as this can compromise its safety and performance.
  • Storage: The ramp should be stored in a clean, dry, and safe place to prevent damage when not in use.

Warranty Information:

The product comes with a 90-day repair/replacement warranty from the original purchase date, covering defects in material and workmanship for mechanical components. The warranty requires a dated purchase invoice as proof. It does not cover normal wear, misuse, neglect, accident, abuse, overloading, improper installation, or modifications. Cosmetic defects, wear items, accessory parts, failures due to acts of God, or problems caused by non-Erickson Manufacturing Ltd. parts are also excluded. The warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser. For warranty claims or technical service, customers are advised to contact Erickson Manufacturing Ltd. directly rather than returning the unit to the place of purchase.
