4.3.1 Function keys overview
If all boards are registered in the system the keys below are only activated in the menu:
Admin/Maintenance/HW/SW/RP.
4.3.2 Shutdown of board(s)
The shutdown command is not needed if a new board is plugged into a formerly vacant slot.
In RASC this new command is located in the maintenance menu. The shutdown command must be
issued before removing one or more board(s) from the system. If a board is removed from the system
that was not shut down will cause a system restart. Move in the list to the boards (arrow keys) and
press the space bar to select them. Press the function key (F6) to shut down the board(s) or click the
field in the pull-down menu. This function key is only available in on-line condition (not available
during remote access from e.g. the help desk). Enter the additional input parameter time to shut down
if needed. The system waits during this selected time (0 to 11 minutes) and then forces all traffic to
disconnect on the selected board(s). RASC displays in a window the remaining time until shutdown is
invoked. After this time has elapsed all active processes on the board(s) are terminated and RASC
issues a prompt that the board is now ready to be removed. The user can neither exit this window nor
use any other RASC function during this time.
Note: It is not possible to shut down CPU boards. The selected board(s) must be registered in the E
2
memory on the CPU, so it is neither possible to shutdown MISPLACED or MISSING boards
nor boards of a wrong type. Additionally a detailed help text is accessible via the F1 key. If the
PC crashes or a PC restart occurs during this waiting time, it is not possible to reconnect from
RASC to the system until the shutdown process has finished. In this case it is prohibited to
enter system programming from a system instrument while a shutdown is in progress. This
may cause serious configuration faults (mismatches) which could lead to a non-restartable
system (in this case only a cold-start could get the system running again).
Transferring configuration data retrieved from a system with a different running/shutdown board
configuration (but everything else totally equal) causes serious configuration mismatches. This
may lead to a system restart or, even worse, to a non restartable system. Therefore it is
necessary to be very careful with retrieving and storing of system configurations.
