This document describes the EvolvePlus Pty Ltd LCD Screen People Counter, an installation guide and operating instructions for models PRx20D1 - PTx20-1 and PRx10D1 - PTx10-1.
The EvolvePlus People Counter is a device designed to count people, primarily for indoor environments, with an optional outdoor casing available for specific models. The system operates using an infrared beam to detect people passing through a monitored area. It is available in two main configurations: bi-directional and uni-directional.
Function Description:
-
Bi-directional Counting (PRx20D1 - PTx20-1): This configuration consists of an LCD screen display model (PRx20D1) and a bi-directional people counter (PTx20-1). The principle of operation is based on the interruption of a horizontal infrared beam. The transmitter PTx20-1 emits an infrared beam to the receiver "PRx20D1". When this infrared beam is interrupted, for example, by a person, the receiver detects this and will increment the internal counter. The PRx20D2 is a direction-sensitive device, meaning it can count in both directions and store the data separately. This allows for tracking of both entries and exits. The counter can run for approximately up to one year on a set of batteries, without compromising the counting distance.
-
Uni-directional Counting (PRx10D1 - PTx10-1): This configuration includes an LCD screen display model (PRx10D1) and a uni-directional people counter (PTx10-1). Similar to the bi-directional model, its principle is based on the interruption of a horizontal infrared beam. The transmitter PTx10-1 transmits an infrared beam to the receiver "PRx10D1". When this infrared beam is interrupted, the receiver detects this and increments the internal counter. The PRx10D1 is not direction sensitive, meaning it counts from both directions, but the counts are captured and stored together as a single total. The counter can run for approximately up to three years on a set of batteries, without compromising the counting distance.
The primary function of these devices is to provide accurate people counting for various applications, such as retail stores, libraries, and other public spaces, to monitor foot traffic.

- Battery Life:
- PRx20D1 & PTx20-1: Approximately 1 year
- PRx10D1 & PTx10-1: Up to 3 years
- Measurement Width:
- PRx20D1 & PTx20-1: 6 meters
- PRx10D1 & PTx10-1: 8 meters
- Maximum Count Value:
- PRx20D1 & PTx20-1: 999999 in both directions
- PRx10D1 & PTx10-1: 999999
- EMI (Enhanced Noise Immunity): The PRx20D1 and PRx10D1 are equipped with EMI technology to enable them to work in environments where transmission noise exists. This feature helps reduce interference and improve the reliability of the count.
- IP54 Rated Outdoor Casing (Optional): For models PRx20D1 and PTx20-1, an optional IP54 rated outdoor casing is available, providing protection and durability for prolonged outdoor use.
Usage Features:
- LCD Screen Display: Both models feature an LCD screen display that shows the current count. The display is designed to be easily readable.
- Mounting Plate: The units are supplied with a mounting plate for easy installation. The mounting plate can be attached to a fixed object using supplied screws. The display unit detaches from the mounting plate for battery replacement or other maintenance.
- Alignment Feature: To ensure accurate counting, the receiver (PRx20D1 or PRx10D1) needs to 'see' the transmitter (PTx20-1 or PTx10-1). The receiver contains an alignment feature that helps point the transmitter to the receiver. To enable the alignment mode, slide the magnet on top of the receiver (PRx20D2 or PRx10D2). When the LED is blinking red, you need to point the transmitter to the receiver until the LED lights up green continuously, indicating proper alignment.
- Accuracy of People Counter: The accuracy of the counter will be higher when the distance between the transmitter and receiver gets smaller. When one or more persons pass the infrared beam at once, the People Counter will increase the count value by one.
- Start Counting: The count value on the display will count from 0 to 999999 for one or both directions separately, depending on the type of counter. The green status LED on the receiver will blink once each time a count is created.
- Resetting the Count Value: To reset the value on the display to 0, slide the magnet over the top side of the receiver (PRx20D1 or PRx10D1). Note that the alignment mode in the receiver will also be activated when resetting the display. Slide again with the magnet over the top side to disable the alignment mode.
- Determining the Direction of the Count Value (PRx20D1 & PTx20-1): When a count is made, the display will immediately show the new count value of that direction. The arrow above the count value shows the direction of that value. This feature is specific to the bi-directional counter.
- No Activity/No Counts: When there is no activity and no counts are made, the LCD display will automatically switch between both directions (for bi-directional counters).
- AM Anti-shoplifting Systems: The strong field of AM anti-shoplifting systems is recommended to place the People Counter at least 1 metre away from an AM system to avoid interference.
- Infrared Light Sources: Be aware of infrared light from other sources like bright lights and infrared devices. When the PRx20D1 or PRx10D1 receives infrared from other sources, instead of the PTx10-1, unexpected behaviour could be the result.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Installation: The people counters are delivered closed and not secured with screws. To install batteries, open the covers and place batteries into the battery compartment, carefully taking note of the correct polarity. The transmitter counter (PTx20-1 or PTx10-1) is powered correctly when the red LED in the circuit board will flash. The receiver counter (PRx20D1 or PRx10D1) is powered correctly when the LCD display screen will show '0'.
- Battery Life: The long battery life (up to 1 year for bi-directional, up to 3 years for uni-directional) minimizes the frequency of battery replacement, reducing maintenance effort.
- Mounting Plate for Easy Access: The detachable mounting plate allows for easy removal of the display unit from the wall for battery replacement or other maintenance tasks without needing to unmount the entire system.
- Optional Metal Bracket: An optional metal bracket can be used to assist with mounting (not included with the standard IP54 Casing), providing a robust mounting solution.
- Included Content: The package includes the receiver (PRx20D1 or PRx10D1), transmitter (PTx20-1 or PTx10-1), magnet key hanger, screwdriver, 2x screw to lock covers, and 4x AA Alkaline Batteries, along with the installation guide.
- Right Angled Metal Mounting Brackets: These are available as additional content for specific mounting needs.
In summary, the EvolvePlus LCD Screen People Counter provides a reliable and easy-to-install solution for monitoring foot traffic, with options for both uni-directional and bi-directional counting, long battery life, and features designed for straightforward operation and maintenance.
