Overview

The EZGoal Backstop Rebounder Kit (Model #65121, also compatible with #65511) is an accessory designed to enhance hockey and other sports training by providing a backstop and rebounder function for a 4'x6' goal. It includes a target net for improved shot accuracy. The kit is designed to be used with EZGoal 4'x6' hockey goals, with specific instructions for different goal models.

Function Description:

The primary function of this kit is to prevent pucks or balls from traveling too far past the goal, thus reducing retrieval time and allowing for more continuous play or practice. It also acts as a rebounder, returning shots back towards the player for continuous training. The integrated 4-pocket target net (Model #69101) allows users to practice shot accuracy by aiming for specific areas of the goal. The backstop panels are designed to fold for convenient storage and can be configured for either gameplay/storage or rebounding.

The backstop is designed to fit 4'x6' goals. The "1" ring on the front uprights of some EZGoal models (specifically the 2013 Ezgoal with 1" rings on the sides) is a key feature for attaching the backstop.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The installation process involves assembling two backstop panels, lacing the side nets, bolting the side panels to the goal (if applicable), and connecting the top net. Precision connection is emphasized, and a rubber mallet or block of wood may be needed for snug fits.
    • Panel Assembly: Two panels are assembled according to a diagram, ensuring corner loops face each other and down tube loops face back.
    • Side Panel Lacing: The side nets are laced using 15' black ropes. Lacing patterns are specified for corners (every square box), sides and top (every other square box), and bottom (every square box), with instructions to tie off with good knots.
    • Side Panel Attachment:
      • For EZGoal Hockey nets with predrilled holes, the side panels are bolted using 75mm and 30mm bolts with butterfly nuts. The head of the bolt should be on the inside of the goal.
      • For other EZGoals and goals, the side panels can be attached either by bolting (drilling 4-1½" holes if not predrilled) or by bungee connection. If using bungees, three 5" black bungees are used per side, with the bungee balls positioned on the backside of the goal.
    • Top Net Connection: The top net is attached using thin short rope corner ties to the steel loops. A heavy main rope is secured to one panel, pulled tight, and secured to the opposite side panel. 5' ropes are used to lace the top net to the side panels, and 15" ropes are used to secure the top net to the goal in a few locations with bow knots.
  • Target Net Installation (4'x6' 4 Pocket Target Nets #69101):
    • Placement: The target net is laid out on the goal, aligning colored tabs (Brown for upper right, Blue for upper left, Orange for lower right, Red for lower left) with the corresponding corners.
    • Hook Attachment: Two hooks on the back of the wire frame (separated by about 4" or one wire loop) are hooked onto the goal. The color tab should be centered in the corner, leaving slack for D-ring adjustment.
    • Bottom Pocket Attachment: Each bottom pocket is attached by inserting a hook through the lower bracket hole from the inside (or bottom of the tube), maintaining color tab alignment.
    • Strap Adjustment: Slack is removed from the straps by tightening the D-rings to achieve a snug fit, ensuring pockets and color tabs are centered.
  • Folding & Storing: The backstop is designed to fold forward for storage. For 2013 EZGoal models with 1" rings, a button on the bottom back of the side uprights must be pressed to allow the goal ring to rotate, enabling the backstop to swing in front of the goal. For bolted non-EZGoal models, the backstop must be removed for storage. The folded panels help stabilize the unit in windy conditions.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always wear safety goggles during net assembly, especially when handling bungee cords.
    • Children must be supervised at all times.
    • Use the product on a level surface, away from steps or stairs.
    • For outdoor use only.
    • Maintain an 8-foot clearance from structures (fences, garages, houses, branches, laundry lines, electrical wires).
    • Use common sense and all precautions associated with sports.
    • Secure the unit to prevent it from being blown over by high winds.
    • NEVER allow anyone (people or pets) to stand behind the net or in the path of a ball/puck.
    • Inspect the unit before and during each use, replacing any worn or damaged parts.
    • Never allow children to stand on the unit.
    • Do not use bungees for any purpose other than applying the net.
    • Always wear recommended safety equipment during sporting activity.
    • Never leave children unattended.
    • Use protective eyewear when securing bungees.
    • Never leave the unit unattended within 8' of vehicles, boats, homes, or any structure to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Part Replacement: The manual advises inspecting the unit before and during each use and replacing any worn or damaged parts. Reorder information for side nets (#69108) and targets (#69101) is provided.
  • Cleaning: While not explicitly detailed, general maintenance would involve cleaning the nets and frame as needed to remove dirt and debris, which can prolong the life of the product.
  • Storage: The folding feature is a key maintenance aspect, allowing for compact storage that protects the unit from environmental damage when not in use. Proper storage also helps prevent damage to surrounding property.
