Overview

The Fagor Electric Multi-cooker is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a variety of cooking methods, including pressure cooking, steaming, browning, rice cooking, and slow cooking. It features user-friendly electronic controls for easy operation and offers convenient "time delay" and "keep warm" settings to accommodate busy schedules.

Function Description:

The Multi-cooker combines several cooking functions into one unit:

  • Pressure Cooking: This program significantly reduces cooking times, up to 70% compared to traditional methods, by cooking foods under pressure. It offers both HIGH (9 psi) and LOW (5 psi) pressure settings, with cooking times adjustable up to 99 minutes. The LOW pressure setting is ideal for delicate foods like tender vegetables or certain fish.
  • Rice Cooking: A dedicated 6-minute program for cooking rice, polenta, and risotto. It can also be used for steaming grains with an optional steamer basket.
  • Slow Cooking: Allows for slow cooking over extended periods, up to 9.5 hours, at temperatures of 190°F (LOW) or 212°F (HIGH). This function helps retain maximum flavor and tenderness in dishes like pot roasts, soups, and stews. Cooking time can be increased in 30-minute increments.
  • Warm Program: Reheats or keeps cooked food warm until ready to serve. This function has no maximum time limit and automatically activates after pressure, rice, or slow cooking programs conclude.
  • Brown Program: Enables browning or sautéing food before cooking, enhancing flavor and texture. The lid should remain off during this process.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Pressure Settings: HIGH (9 psi), LOW (5 psi).
  • Slow Cook Temperatures: 190°F (LOW), 212°F (HIGH).
  • Maximum Pressure Cooking Time: 99 minutes.
  • Maximum Slow Cooking Time: 9.5 hours (in 30-minute increments).
  • Rice Cooking Time: 6 minutes.
  • Delay Time Function: Up to 8 hours (in half-hour increments).
  • Power Cord: Polarized AC plug.
  • Inner Cooking Pot: Aluminum with Teflon Classic non-stick coating.
  • Outer Housing: Stainless steel.

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel (12): Features easy-to-use buttons for selecting different programs: HIGH/LOW pressure, RICE COOK, HIGH/LOW slow cook, BROWN, WARM, and DELAY TIME. A digital display shows cooking times.
  • Pressure Regulating Knob (1): Turns to "PRESSURE" for pressure or rice cooking, and to "STEAM" for pressure release or when using slow cooker/warm functions.
  • Self-Locking Pin (2): Automatically locks the lid in place. The lid cannot be opened while the unit is under pressure.
  • Cool-Touch Handles (3): Located on the lid and body for safe handling.
  • Floating Valve (4): Controls internal pressure by releasing excess steam.
  • Silicone Gasket (5): Creates an airtight seal for pressure cooking. Requires periodic inspection for tears or cracks.
  • Safety Pressure Valve (6): An independent valve that releases excess pressure during pressure cooking.
  • Anti-Blocking Case (7): Can be pulled up for cleaning the pressure regulator knob.
  • Condensation Reservoir (8): Collects excess condensation during cooking and is removable for emptying.
  • Heating Element and Temperature Sensor (9): Regulate the cooking temperature.
  • Removable Cooking Pot (10): Non-stick, dishwasher-safe pot for cooking.
  • Stationary Pot (11): Non-removable outer pot; should never be used for cooking.
  • Safety Guidelines:
    • Always ensure the silicone gasket and pressure regulating valves are clean and in place before use.
    • A minimum of 1 cup (8 oz) of liquid is required for pressure cooking.
    • Do not fill the pot more than 2/3 full with food and liquid, or 1/2 full for foods that expand.
    • Certain foods (e.g., applesauce, cranberries, oatmeal, pasta) should not be pressure cooked as they can foam and block the valve.
    • Never attempt to force the lid open while under pressure.
    • Never deep fry or pressure fry in the Multi-cooker.
    • Keep hands and face away from the pressure regulator knob when releasing steam.
    • Use caution when removing the lid after cooking due to residual steam.
    • Do not use the Delay Time function for perishable foods that spoil if left at room temperature for more than 1-2 hours.
    • The timer for pressure cooking will only start counting down once the appropriate pressure is reached. If not, check the dial setting, gasket placement, and liquid level.
    • For optimal pressure cooking, use at least 8 oz. of liquid to generate steam.
    • Under-cook and use the quick release method to check for doneness if unsure of cooking time.
    • Cook fresh fruit on low pressure.
    • Add a tablespoon of oil to water when cooking dry beans to reduce foam.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Unplug and allow the unit to cool before cleaning.
    • The removable cooking pot is dishwasher safe.
    • Wash the removable cooking pot and condensation reservoir with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry.
    • Wipe the outer stainless steel housing with a clean damp cloth; never submerge it in water.
    • Remove the silicone gasket from the lid, wash with warm soapy water, rinse, dry, and reposition it correctly. Ensure the groove in the center of the gasket is around the metal ring on the lid's inside edge.
    • Periodically check the silicone gasket for damage; do not use if torn or cracked.
    • Clean the bottom of the Multi-cooker (under the removable cooking pot) with a soft damp cloth after each use to ensure optimal performance of the temperature sensor and heating pad.
    • Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Cleaning the Pressure Regulator Knob:
    • After the unit cools, remove the lid.
    • Press down and turn the knob counterclockwise past "STEAM" to "CLEAN" to remove it.
    • Check for particle buildup in the holes and rinse under running water.
    • Turn the lid over, pull out the anti-locking case, and use a brush or toothpick to clear any food particles from the floating valve. Replace the anti-locking case.
    • Replace the pressure regulator knob by aligning the two notches with the inside wall of the chamber and turning clockwise until the white button aligns with the pressure or steam setting.
