Overview

The Fairchild T6000 is an Electro-Pneumatic Transducer designed to convert a DC current or voltage input signal into a directly proportional pneumatic output. This compact unit simplifies pneumatic piping with Inlet and Outlet Ports located on both the front and rear.

Function Description

The primary function of the T6000 is to act as an interface between electrical control signals and pneumatic systems. It takes an electrical input (DC current or voltage) and translates it into a corresponding pneumatic pressure output. This allows for precise control of pneumatic actuators and other devices using electrical control systems. The device supports both forward acting and reverse acting modes, providing flexibility in control applications.

Important Technical Specifications

For calibration, the following equipment is required:

  • Pneumatic Supply: Capable of delivering up to 150 psig.
  • Current Supply: Capable of delivering up to 60 mA.
  • Pressure Gage: Capable of a digital readout up to 50 psig with an accuracy of 0.1%.
  • Digital Volt Meter: Capable of a readout up to 60 mA with an accuracy of 0.02%.

These specifications highlight the precision and range of the T6000, indicating its suitability for demanding industrial control environments.

Usage Features

The T6000 offers several features that enhance its usability and adaptability:

Calibration and Adjustment

The device includes ZERO and SPAN adjustment screws for precise calibration. These adjustments allow users to set the minimum and maximum output pressures corresponding to the input signal range.

Forward Acting Mode Adjustment:

  1. Zero Adjustment: Apply the minimum input signal and adjust the Zero screw to achieve the minimum output pressure. Turning the screw clockwise increases pressure, while counter-clockwise decreases it.
  2. Span Adjustment: Apply the maximum input signal and adjust the Span screw for the maximum output pressure. Turning the screw clockwise increases pressure, while counter-clockwise decreases it.
  3. Repeat steps 2-3 until the desired output range is obtained.

Reverse Acting Mode Adjustment:

  1. Zero Adjustment: Apply the minimum input signal and adjust the Zero screw for the maximum output pressure. Turning the screw clockwise increases pressure, while counter-clockwise decreases it.
  2. Span Adjustment: Apply the maximum input signal and adjust the Span screw for the minimum output pressure. Turning the screw clockwise decreases pressure, while counter-clockwise increases it.
  3. Repeat steps 6-7 until the desired output range is obtained.

Split Range Operation: All T6000 units are capable of split range operation or can be set for any output within the specified range, provided the Output Span is equal to or greater than the minimum Span. This flexibility allows the device to be integrated into complex control schemes where different ranges of output pressure are required for specific input signal segments.

Electrical Connections

For detailed information on electrical connections, users should refer to the Installation Instructions, II-50T6000S. This ensures proper and safe wiring of the transducer.

Maintenance Features

The T6000 is designed for straightforward maintenance, primarily focusing on cleaning the orifice to ensure optimal performance.

Orifice Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Shut off the air supply: Before any maintenance, ensure the valve supplying air to the transducer is shut off. It is not necessary to remove the transducer from the air line for this procedure.
  2. Remove Orifice Assembly: The Orifice Assembly can be easily removed from the unit. Refer to Figure 1 "T6000 Calibration Configuration" for visual guidance on its location.
  3. Clean and Dry: Clean the orifice with alcohol and thoroughly dry it with compressed air.
    • Note: Parts must be completely dry before reassembling to prevent contamination or operational issues.

If the standard maintenance procedure does not resolve any issues, a Service Kit EA-16798-1 is available for purchase.

Troubleshooting

The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to address common issues:

Table 1. Trouble-Shooting.

  • No Output:
    • Check Supply Pressure.
    • Check for Clogged Orifice.
    • Verify Input Signal.
  • Leakage:
    • Inspect Pneumatic Connections.
  • Low or Improper Span Adjust:
    • Perform Zero and Span Adjustments.
    • Check for Low Supply Pressure.
    • Check for Output Leakage.
  • Erratic Operation:
    • Check DC Signal.
    • Inspect for Loose Wires or Connections.
    • Check for Liquid in Air Supply.
    • Check for Dirt in Magnet Gap.

Warning:

A critical warning is provided regarding potential hazards: "Failure of Transducer could result in output pressure increasing to supply pressure possibly causing personal injury or damage to equipment." This emphasizes the importance of proper installation, maintenance, and adherence to operational guidelines.

The information provided in the Operation and Maintenance Instructions should not be modified or amended without prior written consent from Fairchild Industrial Products Company.
