Overview

The Fenix HM50R V2.0 Headlamp is a versatile and robust lighting device designed for a wide range of activities, offering both white and red light outputs. Its primary function is to provide illumination, serving as a headlamp for hands-free operation or detachable for use as a work flashlight. The device is engineered with user convenience and durability in mind, making it suitable for various demanding environments.

Function Description

The headlamp operates with a maximum output of 700 lumens, providing a powerful beam for diverse lighting needs. It features a Cree XP-G3 S4 white light LED with an impressive lifespan of 50,000 hours, ensuring long-term reliability. In addition to white light, the HM50R V2.0 also incorporates red light functionality, which is often preferred for preserving night vision or for signaling purposes. The device is powered by an included 16340 rechargeable Li-ion battery, offering a balance of power and portability. Its detachable structure enhances its versatility, allowing it to transition from a head-mounted light to a handheld flashlight for close-up tasks or inspection.

Usage Features

The HM50R V2.0 Headlamp offers intuitive operation with a straightforward on/off mechanism. To activate the white light mode from an off state, a 0.5-second press and hold of the switch is required. For red light mode, a double-click of the switch from an off state will engage it. Turning the lamp off is as simple as pressing and holding the switch for 0.5 seconds when it is already on.

Output selection is designed for ease of use. In white light mode, a single click of the switch cycles through Low, Med, High, and Turbo settings, benefiting from an intelligent memory circuit that recalls the last used white light output. For red light mode, a single click cycles between Red light and Red flash, without an intelligent memory circuit.

A crucial safety and convenience feature is the lockout function, which prevents accidental activation. To lock the device, press and hold the switch for 3 seconds when the lamp is off. The lamp will momentarily switch on white light and then blink red four times to confirm the locked status. Unlocking is achieved by pressing the switch for 3 seconds while locked; the lamp will activate with four one-second red blinks and then turn on in Red Light mode. In the locked state, any click or press of the switch will trigger four one-second red blinks to indicate its locked status.

The headlamp is equipped with a USB Type-C charging port, facilitating easy and fast charging of the included 16340 rechargeable Li-ion battery. During charging, the indicator light displays red, turning green once fully charged. The normal charging time for the included battery is approximately 1.5 hours. Notably, the headlamp can still be used on Low, Red, or Red flash modes while charging, though this may extend the charging duration.

Battery level indication is another practical feature. When the lamp is off, a single click of the switch activates the battery status indicator for 3 seconds. A green light indicates a saturated charge (100%-80%), a flashing green light signifies a sufficient charge (80%-50%), a red light indicates a poor charge (50%-20%), and a flashing red light warns of a critical charge level (20%-0%). This feature is specifically designed to work with the Fenix ARB-L16-700P battery.

The device also incorporates an intelligent overheat protection mechanism. When operating in Turbo mode for extended periods, the lamp can accumulate significant heat. If the lamp's temperature reaches 60°C or above, it will automatically reduce its lumen output to cool down. Once the temperature drops below 60°C, the user can reselect Turbo mode. A low-voltage warning system is also in place: when the battery voltage drops below a preset level, the headlamp will automatically downshift to a lower brightness level until it reaches Low mode. If the battery continues to drain in Low mode, the battery level indicator will blink to prompt the user to recharge or replace the battery. This warning system is also specific to the Fenix ARB-L16-700P battery.

The headband assembly is factory assembled and designed for comfort and durability. Made from reinforced silicone material, it boasts good tear resistance and mechanical strength, along with resistance to low/high temperatures, ultraviolet rays, acid, and alkali corrosion. It is comfortable against the skin and is hypoallergenic. The headband can be washed directly if it becomes stained with sweat or mud.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is key to ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of the Fenix HM50R V2.0 Headlamp. Disassembling the sealed head is strongly discouraged, as it can damage the lamp and void the warranty. Fenix recommends using only high-quality Fenix batteries for best results.

For periods of extended storage, it is advisable to remove the battery to prevent potential damage from electrolyte leakage. Additionally, engaging the lockout function or removing the battery during storage or transport helps prevent accidental activation.

Over time, the O-rings may experience wear. To maintain the headlamp's waterproof seal, it is important to periodically check and replace worn O-rings with approved spares. Regular cleaning of the battery contacts is also crucial. Dirty contacts can lead to flickering, intermittent illumination, or complete failure to light up. If the lamp exhibits such issues, the first step is to check if the battery needs replacing, ensuring it is inserted according to the manufacturer's specifications. If the battery is fine, the contact points of the battery or headlamp should be cleaned with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol. If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contacting the distributor is recommended.

When charging is complete, it is important to replace the anti-dust cap to maintain the device's waterproof and dustproof capabilities. For stored headlamps, recharging every four months is recommended to maintain optimal Li-ion battery performance. The charging system also includes protection: if the lamp's temperature reaches 60°C or above during charging, it will automatically stop charging and enter a sleeping mode to prevent damage.

The headlamp is a high-intensity lighting device, and users should avoid shining the lamp directly into anyone's eyes to prevent potential eye damage. Due to the heat generated during extended use, especially in high output modes, users should be mindful of the headlamp shell's temperature to avoid scalding. Similarly, avoid shining the light at objects at close range to prevent burning or other hazards caused by high temperatures. It is important to note that the LED of this headlamp is not replaceable; therefore, the entire lamp should be replaced once the LED reaches the end of its operational life.

Any changes to the information provided in the manual will result in a new version prevailing. If an older user manual is included, it implies acceptance that a new manual will not be sent.
