What to do if my Festool OF 1400 EQ motor does not start?
    • P
      Peter CarrJul 26, 2025
First, ensure the power cord is correctly plugged into both the router and a functioning outlet. Check the outlet's power supply and the circuit breaker. If you're using a Festool dust extractor, set the selector switch to 'Auto'. Examine the power cord for any damage. Finally, the motor brushes might be worn and require replacement.

Why does my Festool Power Tool vibrate excessively?
    • D
      David SmithJul 31, 2025
Excessive vibration can occur if a large diameter router bit is slightly out of balance, especially at high speeds, so try reducing the router speed. If the vibration persists and is severe, discard the router bit. Also, the router bit shaft may be bent, in that case you should discard the bit. The router bearings may be worn and need replacement, in this case the router should be sent in for service.

What to do if my routed profile burns with Festool Power Tool?
    • V
      Veronica BellAug 6, 2025
Burning during routing can occur if the router bit is dull, the router speed is too high, or the feed speed is too slow. Some materials are also more prone to burning than others. Try taking a shallow clean-up pass with a higher feed rate. If the burn is below the profile, the router bit guide bearing (if present) may be worn and needs replacement. Check the bearing by spinning it with your finger; a good bearing should coast for about one revolution.

How to fix router bits slipping in the collet of my Festool OF 1400 EQ?
    • A
      Andrew PopeAug 13, 2025
Slipping can occur if the collet and mating arbor taper become pitted from acids and oil in the wood. To resolve this: 1. Remove the collet from the router. 2. Clean the outer taper of the collet using a plastic scrubbing pad. 3. Clean the interior taper of the arbor using a plastic scrubbing pad. 4. Ensure no plastic or metal debris remains after cleaning, and then reinsert the collet. If the router bits have spun inside the collet, the collet may be damaged and require replacement.
