Why do I experience frequent unwanted alarms with my FireAngel Smoke Alarm?
    • W
      Wesley MurrayAug 11, 2025
Frequent unwanted alarms may be due to the location of your smoke alarm. Check the location of your smoke alarm. It might also be that the smoke alarm needs cleaning; see the ‘Maintenance’ section for instructions.

What does it mean when the amber LED is flashing and the FireAngel Smoke Alarm is chirping?
    • A
      alexmartinezAug 18, 2025
If the amber LED is flashing at around the same time as the chirp, this indicates a low power pack condition, and the alarm should be replaced as soon as possible and certainly within 30 days. If the amber LED is flashing at a different time to the chirp, this indicates a fault, and the alarm should be replaced as soon as possible. If the amber LED is double flashing and the alarm is making a “chirping” sound, this indicates that the wireless module has a low power pack condition or is faulty. The alarm should be replaced as soon as possible.

What to do if my FireAngel Smoke Alarm doesn't sound during testing?
    • J
      jonathonmaySep 2, 2025
First, ensure the alarm is rotated clockwise as far as it can go and is securely located on its base plate. If testing after first activating the alarm, allow a few seconds for the alarm to settle before testing. Make sure you push the centre of the test button firmly. If the unit has been silenced and is in low sensitivity mode, wait 15 minutes then try again. Also, check the positioning, as the wireless signal might be blocked or out of range. If you are learning in the alarm and it does not test, repeat the process. If the alarm still fails to self test, please contact Technical Support.

Overview

The FireAngel WST-630 is a wireless interlink smoke alarm designed for domestic use, offering enhanced fire detection and a 10-year life. It incorporates advanced Thermoptek sensor technology, which combines optical sensing with thermal enhancement to provide a fast response to both slow smouldering and fast flaming fires. This eliminates the need for traditional ionization sources, which can be harmful to the environment. The alarm constantly monitors temperature changes, and if a rate of temperature rise is detected, its sensitivity is increased, ensuring quick detection of various fire types.

The WST-630 is powered by an internal lithium power pack, which is supplied in a deactivated state. The power pack automatically activates when the alarm is correctly locked onto its base plate and deactivates when removed. This design ensures the alarm is ready for use only when properly installed and allows for safe disposal.

Usage Features:

The smoke alarm is suitable for various residential settings, including individual flats, bedsits, mobile homes, and caravans. While it meets minimum requirements for family living units in existing buildings (with at least one unit per floor), it can also be installed in new build properties as additional protection to an existing smoke detection system, though it cannot substitute a hard-wired system required by building regulations. For optimal fire warning, it is recommended to install a smoke alarm in all rooms where temperatures typically range between 4°C (40°F) and 38°C (100°F).

The WST-630 features wireless interlinking capabilities, allowing multiple alarms to communicate with each other and form a network. If one alarm activates, all other interlinked smoke alarms will also sound, providing a comprehensive warning system throughout the property. Up to 50 WST-630 smoke alarms and/or Wi-Safe 2 accessories can be learned into a single network. The "learning in" process involves installing the first alarm, then briefly pressing a learn button on subsequent alarms and pressing the test button on an already networked alarm to establish communication.

The alarm includes a "Smart Silence" feature, which allows temporary silencing of the alarm in the event of a known false alarm, such as from cooking fumes. By briefly pressing the central test button, the alarm sound will stop, and its sensitivity will be reduced for approximately 10 minutes, after which it automatically returns to full sensitivity. However, if the smoke level is very high, the silence function will be overridden, and the alarm will continue to sound. In an interlinked network, pressing the test button on any alarm will silence all other alarms, but the instigating alarm (the one that sensed smoke) cannot be remotely silenced, ensuring its location can be identified.

The alarm provides clear visual and audible indicators for various statuses:

  • Normal Operation: Red LED flashes approximately every 45 seconds.
  • Alarm Condition: Red LED flashes rapidly (once per second) on the alarm that detected smoke, while all interlinked alarms sound 3 loud beeps repeatedly.
  • Low Power Pack Condition: The unit emits an audible 'chirp' approximately once every 45 seconds, and the amber LED flashes at the same time. Other networked alarms will emit a low battery chirp every 4 hours. This indicates the alarm should be replaced within 30 days.
  • Fault Indication: Amber LED flashes and an audible 'chirp' is heard at a different time, indicating a fault where the unit may not detect smoke. Immediate replacement is recommended. If the amber LED flashes twice, it indicates a fault with the wireless module, requiring replacement of the entire alarm.
  • "Smart Silence" Alarm: Red LED flashes once every 10 seconds for up to 10 minutes, indicating reduced sensitivity.

Maintenance Features:

The FireAngel WST-630 is designed to be largely maintenance-free due to its sealed electrical device and 10-year internal lithium power pack. However, regular testing and cleaning are crucial to ensure proper operation.

  • Weekly Testing: It is recommended to test the smoke alarm weekly by briefly pressing the central test button. The unit should emit an audible alarm consisting of 2 cycles of 3 loud beeps and the red LED should flash rapidly. For interlinked systems, every individual smoke alarm should be tested weekly. If an alarm fails to self-test, troubleshooting steps should be followed.
  • Cleaning: The smoke alarm should be cleaned at least once every 3 months using a vacuum cleaner fitted with a soft brush attachment. This helps prevent false alarms caused by dust or debris accumulating in the sensor.
  • Avoidance of Solvents and Paint: Users are explicitly warned not to use solvents or cleaners on the smoke alarm, as these can damage the sensor or circuitry. The unit can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth if needed. Painting the smoke alarm is also prohibited, as it can block the openings and prevent smoke from entering the sensor, compromising its effectiveness.
  • Battery Management: The internal lithium battery is designed for a 10-year life and is not user-replaceable. Attempting to open the case or tamper with the battery will invalidate the warranty and can create a fire hazard. The alarm provides clear indicators for low power, prompting replacement of the entire unit.
  • Disposal: Waste electrical products, including the smoke alarm, should not be disposed of with general household waste. It is suited for disposal within WEEE recycling schemes. Once the alarm is removed from its base plate, the internal power pack deactivates, making it ready for disposal. Users are advised to check with local authorities or technical support for recycling advice.

The WST-630 is a robust and user-friendly smoke alarm, emphasizing safety through its advanced technology, wireless interlinking, and clear status indicators, while requiring minimal but essential maintenance.
