This document provides an operation and installation guide for the First Alert® Waterproof Fire Safe, specifically models 2601DF, 2602DF, and 2603DF. The manual outlines the proper use, setup, maintenance, and warranty information for these fire-resistant, media-protected, and waterproof safes.
The First Alert® Waterproof Fire Safe is designed to offer secure storage for valuables and important documents, protecting them from both fire and water damage. These safes are engineered to maintain an interior temperature below 350°F for 30 minutes during a fire up to 1550°F, as validated by UL testing. This ensures the integrity of paper records and other heat-sensitive documents. Additionally, the safes are validated to be waterproof when fully submerged for up to one hour, providing protection against water damage, though they are not intended for long-term underwater exposure. The product comes with a Lifetime After Fire Replacement Guarantee, offering a replacement in case the safe is damaged by fire.
To begin using the safe, users must first install the included four AA batteries and locate the two entry keys, which are found within the packing material. The battery cover is located on the top of the lid. After sliding off the cover, batteries should be inserted according to the +/- directions, which will cause the LED on the lid to blink red and green three times. The cover is then replaced and closed. It is recommended to clean battery contacts before installation.
The safe can be opened using either the keypad or the entry key.
To close the safe, ensure that the contents do not obstruct the seal. The lid is then closed, and the latch is pushed back and down onto the lid clasp until it snaps into the closed position, locking the safe. The keys should always be stored in a secure place away from the safe itself.
For enhanced security, it is highly recommended to program a unique personal passcode, replacing the factory code immediately.
The safe should always be stored in a flat, horizontal position to ensure that its contents remain protected during a fire. Storing the unit on its sides or ends will not provide adequate protection.
Delicate items such as pictures or intricate jewelry should be placed in an airtight container before being stored in the safe. Users should avoid placing the safe in areas of high humidity. For optimal performance, the safe should be opened and aired out for at least 20 minutes every two weeks.
This safe is not designed to store medication, items with combustible content, guns, or other weapons.
To clean the safe, wipe it with a damp cloth and then dry it. Never use paint thinners or chemical solvents, as these can permanently damage the finish. For the exterior surface, a mild cleaner (e.g., window cleaner) is recommended to avoid scratching or discoloring. Always wipe dry and never use abrasive cleansers on the safe or digital keypad.
Proper battery maintenance is crucial for the safe's long-term operation.
The system automatically checks the battery power level each time the keypad is activated. If the power falls below a certain level, the keypad will beep and flash yellow when a key is pressed, indicating that batteries need replacement.
Avoid operating the digital keypad with hands that have excessive dirt, debris, or liquids on them to prevent damage and ensure proper function.
If keys are lost or additional keys are desired, they can be purchased from First Alert, Inc. To ensure accurate processing, customers must provide their name, address, telephone number, safe model number, serial number, key number (found on the key and around the lock cylinder), the number of keys requested, and the preferred method for receiving the keys. This information can be sent via fax or mail to First Alert, Inc. Checks or money orders are required for mail orders and should be made payable to First Alert. Contact Consumer Affairs for costing information before ordering.
For warranty service, do not return the product to the retailer. Instead, contact Consumer Affairs at 1-800-323-9005 during business hours (7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Central Standard Time, Monday through Friday). When calling, have the model number and date of purchase available. The manual should be saved and never kept inside the safe.
It is strongly recommended to record the Model Number, Key Number, and Digital Passcode in the provided Safe Identification Record form. This information is critical for identifying the safe and ensuring prompt and accurate assistance from Consumer Affairs, especially for obtaining replacement keys or warranty service. The Model Number identifies the specific product line and its features, while the Key Number is essential for identifying the specific key and lock cylinder configuration for replacement keys. The Key Number is engraved on the keys and around the lock cylinder.
