theodolite is still in face left with horizontal hair on the target. Turn the micrometer
knob and set the correct value 1519in example, against the index of the
micrometer scale. Then turn the adjustment screw until the circle graduations
coincide to give the full correct value 86°1519in the example. Close cover. Repeat
observations and if necessary the adjustment.
4. Adjustment of footscrews and horizontal and vertical drive screws
Slacken the screw with a screw driver. The adjustment is carried out by means of the
capstan-headed screw with an adjusting pin.
5. Adjustment of optical plummet
Level up the instrument. Look through plummet, focus and move the instrument on
the instrument on the tripod until the ground mark is within the circle on the reticle.
Turn the alidade through 180°. If the mark runs out of the circle, it needs adjusting.
To adjust:
Slacken the screw above the optical plummet, remove the cover, two round headed
screws and a grub screw are seen, slacken the two round headed screws slightly.
Move the prism carrier by means of two round headed screws, and tilt the prism
