Why is my FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance not removing air from the bag?
    • E
      Erica GomezAug 12, 2025
If your FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance isn't removing air from the bag, ensure the open end of the bag is entirely inside the vacuum channel. Also, check the bag for leaks by sealing it with some air, submerging it in water, and applying pressure. If you're using a custom-sized FoodSaver Bag, verify the seal. Avoid creating your own side seams for the bag.

What to do if air comes back into FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance bag?
    • C
      Cindy RussellAug 16, 2025
If air returns to the bag after using your FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance, it could be due to several reasons: - A wrinkle in the bag along the seal: Check the seal, cut the bag open, and vacuum package it again. - Moisture or food material along the seal: Cut the bag open, wipe the top inside of the bag material to clear away any moisture or food residue, then vacuum package the bag again. - Sharp-edged food items may have punctured the bag: Use a new FoodSaver Bag if you find a puncture. - Fermentation or release of natural gases: If none of these conditions are present, the food may have spoiled and should be discarded.

If your FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance isn't sealing the bag, the sealing strip may have become too hot. Wait 20 minutes to allow the Vac 550 to cool off, and then try using it again. Also, wait at least 20 seconds for the machine to cool down after vacuum packaging and/or sealing before attempting to vacuum and/or seal another bag. If your FoodSaver Kitchen Appliance isn't vacuuming the mason jar or FoodSaver canister, ensure the jar sealer is centered and pressed firmly over the lid. Check that the rubber gasket on the canister/mason jar lid is free from food materials. Also, make sure the rim of the canister or mason jar is free from any cracks or scratches. Avoid filling the canister or mason jar too full before vacuum packaging, and ensure the metal lid of the mason jar is not bent.
