SYNC without Navigation
What is SYNC? In the most
basic terms, SYNC is an entertainment system that lets
people stay connected while they’re behind the
wheel, thanks to voice-activated technology. It is changing the way drivers
interact with their Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and personal music
devices inside their vehicles. SYNC is available exclusively on Ford and Lincoln
vehicles.
SYNC gives drivers the ability to connect and access a variety of Bluetooth-
enabled mobile phones, digital media players and other electronic storage
devices. It uses advanced technology to connect and control these devices. But
the most important part of all is the voice-activated calling and music selection that
allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
MUSIC STORAGE DEVICE
Here’s how to use digital music players and music storage devices with SYNC.
With the ignition and the radio on, plug the device into the USB port located in
the center console.
1. Ensure that your digital playing device is plugged into the USB
and is on.
2. Press MEDIA on the navigation screen.
3. Select the USER DEVICE tab.
4. Press SOURCE repeatedly until USB appears in the line
above SOURCE.
If the connected device and media content are supported, SYNC will
begin indexing available media files. NO MEDIA will appear if there are
no readable media files for SYNC to play. If there are readable files,
INDEXING may appear. If Autoplay is on, SYNC gives you the ability to
access media files randomly as they are indexed. If Autoplay is off,
indexed media are not available until the indexing process is complete.
After indexing is complete, you may press Seek Up/Down on the screen
to access the previous/next track. You may also press to play/pause
the current track.
5. Select your criteria by choosing Play All, Genre, Artist, Album,
Track, etc., and then finalize your selection criteria via additional
touch-screen selections.
Note: The “Playlist” criteria feature is typically available only when
using a media device. The “Explore USB” feature is typically
available only when using a USB storage device, offering a file
folder organization-based selection.
