Adequate grounding must be provided to the FortiAP unit and the PoE injector. Consult
a certified electrician to ensure that all grounding and cabling is installed in compliance
with the local electrical code.
Use an exterior-grade or direct burial CAT5 Ethernet cable for connecting the outdoor
unit to the PoE injector. Use the weatherproof connection to ensure a tight seal at the
PoE port on the unit.
To Connect the FortiAP unit
1. Connect grounding cables to the grounding lugs on the PoE injector, then connect
the other ends of the cables to appropriate ground connections.
2. Connect the region-specific AC plug adapter to the AC power adapter by inserting
the round disk into the adapter and rotating clockwise until you hear the disk lock in
place.
3. Insert the DC plug of the power adapter into the DC48V IN port on the PoE injector,
then plug the AC adapter into an appropriate power outlet. The PWR LED will light
up.
4. Connect one end of a cross-over Ethernet cable to the Network port on the PoE
injector. Connect the other end to the FortiGate controller or an Internet connection.
Do not connect the PoE injector to a PoE enabled Ethernet port.
5. Using the weatherproof connection, connect an Ethernet cable to the FortiAP unit, as
described in “Cabling” on page 8.
6. Connect the Ethernet cable from the device into the AP/Bridge port on the PoE
injector.
