Connecting the FortiGate unit to your network
After you complete the initial configuration of the FortiGate-500 unit, you can connect
the FortiGate-500 between your internal network and the Internet and to other
networks.
There are twelve 10/100Base-TX connectors on the FortiGate-500:
Internal for connecting to your internal network,
External for connecting to an external firewall or router,
DMZ for connecting to another network segment,
HA and interfaces 1 to 8 for connecting up to nine additional network segments to
your FortiGate-500.
To connect the FortiGate-500 unit running in Transparent mode:
1 Connect the Internal interface to the hub or switch connected to your internal network.
2 Connect the External interface to the network segment connected to the external
firewall or router.
3 Optionally connect the DMZ and HA interfaces and interfaces 1 to 8 to hubs or
switches connected to your other networks.
