To open: push releaselever ; downwards
and swingmaintenanceflap : upwards.

Pressmaintenanceflap : on theleft and
rightsides until you hear maintenance
flap : engage.
Coolant level

WARNING
The cooling system is pressurized, particu-
larly when themotor is warm. If you open
thecap, you could be scalded if hot coolant
sprays out. Thereisarisk of injury.
Let theengine cooldown before you open
thecap. Wear protective glovesand protec-
tiveeyewear when opening. Open thecap
slowly to releasepressure.

Comply with instructions on theuse, storage
and disposal of service products on the
labels of therespective original containers.
Always store service products sealed in their
original containers. Always keepservice
products out of thereachofchildren.

Do not operate thevehicle if thecoolant
level is too low. Otherwise, theengine may
be damaged.
Example: coolant expansion tank
The coolant expansion tankislocated behind
thecab.
If thecoolant level in thecoolant expansion
tankistoo low, theon-board computerdis-
plays theeventwindowwith the * symbol
(Y page 99).
Only open thecoolant expansion tankwhen
thecoolant temperature is below 122‡
(50 †).
The coolant level can only be accurately deter-
mined when thecoolant temperature is
between 32 ‡(0†)and 77 ‡(25 †). First
check thecoolant temperature using theon-
board computer(Ypage 80).

Park thevehicle on alevel surface.
X
Apply theparking brake.
X
Switch off theengine.
X
Turn thekey back in theignitionlock as far
as it will go.
X
Turn turquoise cap : slowly anti-clockwise
and releasethe pressure.
X
Unscrew and remove turquoise cap :.
X
Checkcoolant level.
The coolant in theexpansion tankmust
reachuptothe edge of thefiller neck.
X
Refill coolant to theedge of thefiller neck.
Pay attention to thecoolant mixtureratio
and thewater quality (Y page 200).
X
Replace turquoise cap : and tighten it as
far as it will go.
