WARNING
The automatic transmission is malfunctioning.The journey can be
continued, butwithrestrictions.
Depending on the fault, aspecialistworkshop maybeabletoassist
youinrestricted continuationofyourjourney if yousupplythe fault
code. Youcan viewthe faultcodes eitherbyusing the DiagnosisDiagnosis
(Y page 80) menu windowinthe on-board computerorthe touch-
key gearshift of the automatic transmission.
Displaying the faultcodes via the touch-keygearshift:

Simultaneouslypress the & and * buttons on the touch-
key gearshift twice.
The touch-keygearshift displayshows the 5-digitfault codes in
sequence.

To displaythe next faultcode, press the MODE button.
Amaximum of 5fault codes can be stored.

To stop displaying faultcodes, press the & and * buttons
of the automatic transmission simultaneously.

Shift the automatic transmission to the neutralposition.

The permissibleoperating temperatureofthe transmission or
retarderhas been reached. The temperatureofthe transmission oil
or coolant is too high. The reason for thismay be thatthe oillevel in
the transmission is too high or too low. If excessive oiltemperature
persists in the transmission, the transmission maybedamaged.

Switch off the retarder.
X
Stop the vehicleassoonaspossible, paying attentiontotraffic
conditions.

Apply the parkingbrake and shift the automatic transmission to
neutral.
X
Runthe engine for 2to3minutesataspeed between 1,200 and
1,500 rpm and thenswitch off the engine.
X
If the temperatureofthe fluid does not drop, check the automatic
transmission fluid level (Y page 164).

If the event message does not go out, contact aqualified special-
istworkshop and have the malfunctionrectified.
