Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire dishwasher, providing comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Frigidaire dishwasher is designed to clean dishes by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent through spray arms against soiled surfaces. It operates through a series of water fills and drains, with soil particles filtered and pumped out. The number of water fills varies depending on the selected cycle. The dishwasher features energy-efficient motors for washing and draining, contributing to quieter operation compared to older models. It includes various wash cycles and options to accommodate different soil levels and user preferences.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Electrical Requirements: Operates on regular house current (120V, 60Hz). Requires a 15-ampere fuse or circuit breaker, or a 20-ampere fuse if connected with a food disposer.
  • Water Temperature: Incoming water temperature should be at least 120°F (49°C) for optimal cleaning and drying. The dishwasher can automatically heat water if it's not hot enough. The HI-TEMP WASH option heats water to approximately 140°F (60°C), and the SANITIZE option raises the final rinse temperature to 155°F (68°C) for 9 minutes.
  • Water Pressure: The hot water line must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
  • Detergent Dispenser: Features one covered and one uncovered cup. The covered cup automatically releases detergent during the cycle.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: Holds enough rinse aid for 35 to 140 washes, depending on the setting.
  • Cycle Durations (Approximate):
    • Heavy Wash: 2 ¼ - 2 ½ Hours
    • Normal Wash: 1 ½ - 2 ¼ Hours
    • Light Wash/Eco Wash: 1 ½ Hours
    • Top Rack: 1 ¼ Hours
    • Rinse Only: ¼ Hour
  • Water Usage per Cycle (Approximate):
    • Heavy Wash: 9 gal. (34 L)
    • Normal Wash: 3 - 8 gal. (12 - 31 L)
    • Light Wash/Eco Wash: 5 gal. (18 L)
    • Top Rack: 5 gal. (17 L)
    • Rinse Only: 2 gal. (9 L)

Usage Features

  • Cycle Selections:
    • Heavy Wash: Recommended for pots, pans, casseroles, and dinnerware with light to heavily soiled loads.
    • Normal Wash: Recommended for lightly to heavily soiled loads.
    • Light Wash/Eco Wash: Recommended for lightly soiled loads only.
    • Top Rack: For small loads in the upper rack only that are light to heavily soiled.
    • Rinse Only: For rinsing dishware to be washed later.
  • Option Selections (Model Dependent):
    • SANITIZE Option: Raises final rinse temperature to 155°F (68°C) for 9 minutes, meeting NSF requirements. Available in Heavy and Normal Cycles.
    • HI-TEMP WASH Option: Heats water in the main wash to approximately 140°F (60°C) for improved cleaning and drying. Automatically provided with Heavy Wash.
    • HEAT DRY Option: Enhances drying performance when used with rinse aid.
    • DELAY START Option: Allows delaying the start of the dishwasher for 2, 4, or 6 hours.
  • Child Lock Controls: Locks controls to prevent accidental changes or starts. Activated by pressing and releasing the RINSE ONLY or NO HEAT DRY pad for 3 seconds.
  • Status Indicator Lights: WASHING, DRYING, SANITIZED, and CLEAN lights indicate the current cycle phase or completion.
  • Loading Flexibility:
    • Top Rack: Designed for cups, glasses, stemware, small plates, and bowls. Some models include fold-down cup shelves or stemware holders.
    • Bottom Rack: Best for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware. Large items should be placed along the edge, facing down or toward the center.
    • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded in the bottom rack or removed for loading on a counter. Sharp items should be loaded pointing down.
  • Adding a Dish: Items can be added after a cycle starts by unlatching the door, waiting for wash action to stop, adding the item, waiting a few seconds for air expansion, and then closing the door firmly.
  • Memory Feature: The dishwasher remembers the last cycle and options selected, allowing for quick restarts by pressing the START/CANCEL pad.

Maintenance Features

  • Glass Trap: Located in the center of the filter, it collects pieces of broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. It can be removed and emptied by rotating the handle 90° clockwise while pressing down on the wash arm, then lifting the assembly.
  • Overfill Protector: Located in the left front corner of the tub, it prevents overfilling. It should move freely and can be cleaned with household cleaner containing vinegar or bleach.
  • Cleaning the Interior: The inside of the dishwasher and filter are self-cleaning with normal use. The tub gasket area can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: The outer door can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, it should be checked for cleanliness to ensure proper drainage. This is not part of the dishwasher and is not covered by warranty.
  • Hard Water Spotting/Filming: The manual provides instructions for removing lime deposit buildup and film using white vinegar.
  • Winterizing: Instructions are provided for disconnecting and draining the dishwasher if it will be left in an unheated place to protect it from freezing.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a "Before You Call" section with common issues and solutions, such as food soils left on dishes, dishes not drying, glassware/flatware spotting, dishware chipping, detergent left in cups, and the dishwasher not running or draining properly.
