Overview

This document provides installation and maintenance instructions for a freestanding gas range. It covers safety warnings, proper installation procedures, electrical connections, gas supply requirements, burner setup, and general care.

Function Description:

The freestanding gas range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking food using natural gas or LP/Propane gas. It features surface burners for stovetop cooking and an oven for baking and broiling. The range is equipped with an electric ignition system for both surface burners and the oven. It is designed to be installed in residential kitchens, either freestanding or with surrounding cabinets.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Fuel Type: Factory preset for natural gas. LP/Propane conversion kits are available for use with LP/Propane gas.
  • Gas Manifold Pressure: Pre-set to operate on 4" natural gas manifold pressure. For LP/Propane gas, the manifold pressure is 10".
  • Maximum Inlet Pressure: Should not exceed 14 inches of water column pressure.
  • Minimum Inlet Pressure: Must be at least 1 inch greater than the regulator manifold pressure (e.g., 5 inches for natural gas, 11 inches for LP/Propane).
  • Gas Supply Line ID: Recommended 1/2" or 3/4" I.D.
  • Electrical Requirements: Dedicated, properly grounded, and polarized branch circuit protected by a 15 amp circuit breaker or time delay fuse. Voltage requirements are specified on the serial plate.
  • Oven Burner Flame Length: Approximately 1 inch with a distinct inner blue flame for both lower and upper (broil) oven burners.
  • Surface Burner Flame Size: Approximately 5/8" for optimal cooking.
  • Altitude Derating: For elevations above 2000 ft., appliance rating shall be reduced at the rate of 4 percent for each 1000 ft. above sea level.
  • Anti-Tip Device: Required for safety, designed to prevent the range from tipping over. It can be installed to the floor or wall.
  • Clearances:
    • Minimum 18" to cabinets on either side of the range.
    • Minimum 30" height from cooktop to cabinets.
    • Minimum 13" maximum depth for overhead cabinets.
    • Rear wall clearance: 2" for 9500 BTU or less, 3" for 10,000-16,999 BTU, 5" for 17,000 BTU or greater (when installed beside a wall above 36" height).
    • If cabinet depth is greater than 25", the oven front frame must extend beyond cabinet front by 1/2" minimum.
    • A minimum clearance of 1/8" is required between the bottom of the range and leveling legs to allow room for the anti-tip bracket.
  • Flexible Gas Connector: A new flexible metal appliance conduit (1/2" NPT x 3/4" or 1/2" I.D., 4 to 5 foot length) must be design certified by CSA International. For Massachusetts installations, it must not exceed 3 feet (36 inches) in length.

Usage Features:

  • Electric Ignition: Surface burners and oven burners are ignited electrically.
  • Manual Lighting (Power Outage): Surface burners can be lit with a match during a power outage.
  • Adjustable Surface Burner Flame: The LOW setting of surface burner valves can be adjusted using a thin-bladed screwdriver to increase or decrease flame size.
  • Oven Temperature Control: The oven igniter cycles on and off to maintain the set temperature. There is a time lapse of 30 to 60 seconds for the oven burner to ignite after the thermostat is turned ON.
  • Oven Air Shutter Adjustment: The air shutter for both lower and upper oven burners can be adjusted to ensure a proper blue flame. This involves loosening a lock screw, repositioning the shutter, and re-tightening.
  • Leveling Legs: Four adjustable leveling legs allow the range to be leveled for stable operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Gas Leak Detection: Liquid leak detector should be used at all joints and conduits to check for leaks after gas supply connection. Flame should not be used for leak detection.
  • Manifold Gas Pressure Check: Can be performed by connecting a manometer to the top burner right rear orifice.
  • Burner Cap Placement Check: Regular verification of correct burner cap size and placement on burner heads is essential for proper ignition and gas flame size.
  • Cleaning: Detailed cleaning instructions are provided in the Use & Care Guide.
  • Service Access: If removing the range for cleaning or maintenance, the gas and electrical supply must be shut off and disconnected. The range should be pulled out only as far as necessary to disconnect utilities.
  • Model and Serial Number Location: The identification plate is located on the right-hand surface of the oven front frame, accessible by opening the storage, warmer, or broiler drawer. This information is crucial for ordering parts and inquiries.
