Overview

This document is a user and care manual for a Frigidaire dishwasher. It provides essential information for safe operation, optimal performance, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire dishwasher is designed to clean soiled dishware by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent against their surfaces. The cleaning process involves several steps: the dishwasher fills with water covering the filter area, water is then pumped through the spray arms, and soil particles are filtered and drained out. This series of steps repeats as needed, with the number of water fills varying depending on the selected wash cycle. The dishwasher utilizes DishSense™ Technology, which automatically detects the soil level on dishes and adjusts the cycle accordingly to ensure efficient cleaning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements: Operates on regular house current (120V, 60Hz). Requires a circuit equipped with a 15-ampere fuse or circuit breaker. A 20-ampere fuse is needed if connected with a food disposer.
  • Water Pressure: The hot water line to the dishwasher must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi for satisfactory results.
  • Water Temperature: Hot water is crucial for best dishwashing and drying. Incoming water temperature should be at least 120°F (49°C). The Sanitize option raises the final rinse water temperature to 156°F (69°C). The High Wash Temp option heats water in the main wash to approximately 140°F (60°C).
  • Detergent: Only fresh automatic dishwashing detergent should be used. The amount of detergent varies based on water hardness, measured in grains per gallon.
  • Rinse Aid: The rinse aid dispenser holds enough for 35 to 140 washes, depending on the dial setting.

Usage Features:

  • Wash Cycle Selections:
    • Heavy Wash: Recommended for pots, pans, casseroles, and dinnerware with light to heavily soiled loads. Cycle time: 2¼ - 4 hours. Water usage: 7.1 - 9.4 gallons (27 - 36 L).
    • Normal Wash: Recommended for lightly to heavily soiled loads. Cycle time: 1¾ - 4 hours. Water usage: 3.2 - 9.2 gallons (12 - 35 L). This is the recommended cycle for everyday use, providing the best all-around performance with factory default options of normal temperature and heated dry.
    • Quick Wash: Recommended for lightly soiled loads only. Cycle time: 34 minutes (Air Dry Only). Water usage: 5.4 gallons (20 L).
    • Energy Saver: Recommended for lightly soiled loads. Cycle time: 1½ - 2 hours. Water usage: 4.8 - 5.8 gallons (18 - 22 L).
    • Rinse Only: For rinsing dishware that will be washed later. Cycle time: ¼ hour (Air Dry Only). Water usage: 2.5 gallons (9 L).
  • Wash Temperature Options:
    • Normal: Default setting for programmed cycles.
    • High Wash Temp: Heats water to approximately 140°F (60°C) for more effective cleaning of greasy and soiled dishes, aiding in drying. Available on Heavy Wash and Normal Wash cycles. Automatically provided with Heavy Wash.
    • Sanitize: Raises final rinse water temperature to 156°F (69°C) to sanitize dishes and glassware. Available on Heavy Wash and Normal Wash cycles. Requires incoming water temperature of at least 120°F (49°C) for best results.
  • Dry Options:
    • Heat Dry: Enhances drying, especially with rinse aid.
    • MaxBoost™: Extends drying time by approximately 20 minutes for improved drying performance. Can be combined with High Wash Temp or Sanitize for best results. Not available on China Crystal, Energy Saver, and Rinse Only cycles.
    • Air Dry: Deactivates the heater during the drying phase, lowering energy use but potentially leaving dishes not completely dry.
  • Delay Time: Allows delaying the start of the dishwasher by 2, 4, or 6 hours.
  • Control Lock: Locks dishwasher controls to prevent accidental starting or cycle changes, useful for households with children.
  • Status Indicator Lights: Console lights provide information on cycle selection and current status. A green light on the floor indicates the wash is complete, and a blue light indicates the wash cycle is operating. The "Clean" light illuminates upon cycle completion, and the "Sanitized" light illuminates if the Sanitize option was selected and achieved.
  • Rack Loading:
    • Top Rack: Designed for cups, glasses, stemware, small plates, and bowls. Delicate items should be placed here. Plastic items should also be placed in the top rack to prevent melting.
    • Adjustable Upper Rack: Can be raised or lowered to accommodate different item sizes.
    • Bottom Rack: Best for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware. Large items should be placed along the edge to avoid blocking the spray arm. Soiled surfaces should face down and toward the center.
    • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded in the bottom rack or removed for loading on a counter. Sharp items (knives, skewers) should be loaded pointing down. Small items like bottle caps can be placed in covered sections.
  • Adding a Dish: Items can be added after a cycle starts by unlatching the door, waiting for wash action to stop, adding the item, closing the door to a near-closed position, waiting for cold air to expand, pressing START/Cancel, and closing the door firmly within 4 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cleaning: The filters need to be cleaned regularly to maximize wash performance. The manual recommends a cleaning schedule.
  • Glass Trap: A glass trap located in the center of the filter collects broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. It should be emptied by pulling up the handle, removing debris, and pushing it back into place.
  • Overfill Protector: Located in the left front corner of the tub, it prevents overfilling. It should move freely about one inch; if not, it needs to be lifted and cleaned underneath. It can be cleaned with a household cleaner containing vinegar or bleach.
  • Outer Door Cleaning: Clean with warm soapy water and a dishcloth or sponge, then rinse with clean water and dry with a cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners.
  • Inside Cleaning: The inside of the dishwasher and filter are self-cleaning with normal use. The tub gasket area can be cleaned with a damp cloth if needed.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: The rinse aid level should be checked, and the dispenser refilled when the indicator shows clear. The amount of rinse aid dispensed can be adjusted by rotating a dial.
  • Hard Water Spots and Film Removal: For lime deposit buildup or spots/film on dishes, run a Normal Wash cycle with clean dishes (no metal utensils), no detergent, and pour 2 cups of white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher after the second water fill (approximately 8 minutes).
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, ensure it is clean to allow proper draining. This is not part of the dishwasher and is not covered by warranty.
  • Winterizing: For dishwashers in unheated places, disconnect electrical power and water supply, drain water from the inlet valve and pump, and reconnect when restoring service. Then, run a Heavy Wash cycle with detergent.

The manual emphasizes safety precautions, including proper grounding, avoiding tampering with controls, careful loading of sharp items, and awareness of hot water vapor and surfaces. It also explains normal operating sounds, noting that energy-efficient units may have longer wash cycles.
